Previously, the market for hybrid vehicles was basically occupied by Japanese car companies such as Toyota and Honda. In 2020, Japanese hybrid models accounted for more than 95% of the domestic hybrid vehicle market. As a newly entered independent brand, it did not choose to "face face", but put its strength on plug-in hybrid in the oil-electric hybrid market and Japanese car companies.
As the first domestic hybrid system, BYD DM-i super hybrid system is undoubtedly one of the hottest hybrid technologies in the past two years. With the research and development of various new hybrid technologies and the listing of new models, the sales pattern of plug-in hybrid vehicles is gradually opening.
According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in March, the production and sales of new energy vehicles reached 465,000 units and 484,000 units, respectively, an increase of 1.1 times year-on-year. Among them, the production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 89,000 units and 88,000 units, respectively, an increase of 1.6 times and 1.4 times, respectively.
In the first quarter of this year, the production and sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles reached 256,000 units and 249,000 units, respectively, an increase of 2.3 times and 2.0 times year-on-year, and the year-on-year growth rate has exceeded that of pure electric vehicles.
It is worth mentioning that this year, BYD Automobile announced that it will stop the production of fuel vehicles from March, focusing more on the strategy of pure electric and plug-in hybrid "two-legged" walking. Last year, BYD's cumulative sales of plug-in and hybrid models exceeded 270,000 units, an increase of 467.6% year-on-year, becoming the biggest driver of BYD's sales growth in 2021.
Entering this year, BYD's plug-in hybrid models are still eye-catching, and in March, BYD EV and DM models sold 53664 and 50674 vehicles respectively, and the sales of pure electricity and plug-in hybrids were almost equal.
With the acceleration of the expansion of independent brands from the pure electric field to the hybrid field, new technologies have been introduced and new products have begun to be listed. It is foreseeable that the "mixed" war in the domestic automobile market will be rapidly upgraded, and the market pattern will begin to change significantly.
