In fact, in March, car companies were still under pressure from the supply chain side such as rising raw material prices, chip shortages, and contradictions between supply and demand for power batteries. The second-tier forces have successfully taken office, and the performance of new brands of traditional car companies has been mixed

In March, Nezha Automobile continued to squeeze into the top three of the monthly sales list of new car-making forces, surpassing Ideal Automobile and Weilai Automobile with a monthly delivery of 12,026 units, winning the second place in the monthly list for the second consecutive month; the cumulative sales of Nezha Automobile in the first quarter were 30,152 vehicles, an increase of 305.11% year-on-year. Daniel Zhang, CEO of Nezha Automobile, has said that the main reason for the sharp increase in sales is the cost performance. From the perspective of market layout, Nezha Automobile pays more attention to sinking, and the overall price range of the two models on sale, Nezha U and Nezha V, is about 60,000-170,000 yuan.

Judging from the performance of the overall new car-making forces in March, the performance of zero-run cars has attracted the most attention. In March, the sales volume of zero-run cars was 10,059 units, an increase of 192.8% month-on-month, becoming the last of the five new car-making forces to achieve sales of more than 10,000 vehicles. In February, the sales volume of zero-running cars fell sharply from the previous month, and the zero-running cars explained that it was mainly affected by the Spring Festival holiday and the tight supply chain of chips and batteries.

There are views in the industry that the explosive growth of zero-running cars in March, on the one hand, the previous backlog of orders has been released; on the other hand, the overall growth rate of the A-class pure electric market where the zero-run C11 model is located is relatively fast, and the zero-running cars can also be quickly released. According to the prospectus submitted by Zero Run Auto in March, as of the end of 2021, Zero Run Auto had a total of 225.36 million C11 orders, of which 3965 were delivered that year.

In March, the new forces hatched by traditional car companies also showed different performances. In March, GAC Aeon achieved sales of 20,317 units, an increase of 189% year-on-year, exceeding 20,000 units for the first time. In this regard, GAC Aeon said that in February, the factory completed the expansion and upgrading of production capacity, and the scale of production capacity has doubled to ensure supply security; at the same time, mixed reform has also brought comprehensive innovation and change. In contrast, Geely Automobile's high-end smart brand Extreme Krypton Automobile performed relatively weakly, continuing the weakness since the beginning of this year, with sales falling for three consecutive months. Affected by chip shortages and the epidemic, the delivery volume of Extreme Kr 001 in March was 1795 units, down 38.4% month-on-month. According to the plan of Extreme Krypton Automobile, it plans to complete the sales of 70,000 vehicles this year.

In March or in advance to consume part of the demand, this year's products are collectively new

For the growth of sales of new car-making forces in March, there is a view that a number of car companies announced price increases in March, consuming part of the demand in advance, superimposing the factors of insufficient production capacity supply caused by the epidemic in March and April and the early release of orders, April and May may usher in the "spring cold" of the new energy vehicle market, and the new forces that complete delivery by order may be particularly obvious.

In fact, the current supply chain crisis has not yet been completely alleviated. Ideal Auto CEO Li Xiang said on his social platform that the increase in battery costs in the second quarter was very outrageous. Cui Dongshu also said that since the beginning of this year, the price of raw materials has caused the price of power batteries to rise faster than the industry expects, and the newly signed orders have increased the pressure on car companies.

At the same time, the problem of chip shortages remains. Li Bin, founder of Weilai Automobile, said on the earnings conference call that the main challenge at present is in the supply of chips, especially the fluctuation of basic chips. Volvo CEO Jim Rowan has publicly stated that it expects chip shortages to ease in the second half of the year.

Despite multiple unstable factors, new energy vehicles still show a rapid growth trend. Xu Changming, deputy director of the State Information Center, said that under the joint action of the "double carbon" strategy, the formation of new pulls by intelligence, the large-scale interaction between the upstream and downstream industrial chains and the whole vehicle, and the rapid improvement of consumer awareness and acceptance of new energy vehicles, new energy vehicles will maintain a period of rapid development.

This year, brands are accelerating the launch of new products. According to the plans of the new car-making forces, NIO is expected to release the 2022 ES8, ES6 and EC6 of the latest intelligent cockpit hardware in late May; Xiaopeng Automobile's fourth model, the medium and large SUV G9, is scheduled to be listed in the third quarter of this year; Ideal Automobile will release its second model, the Ideal L9; Nezha Automobile's first high-end model, Nezha S, is scheduled to be listed and delivered within the year; and zero-run automobile's first pure electric medium and large sedan based on the C platform is scheduled to be listed in the third quarter of this year.

According to the data of the Association, the penetration rate of the new energy vehicle market will increase to 14.8% in 2021, and it is predicted that the sales of new energy vehicles this year are expected to exceed 6 million units, with a penetration rate of about 22%.
