Foreign mixing is booming, and domestic can't even afford to pay wages, what happened to Aiways?

After several years of elimination, not many domestic automakers have survived. Among the old car-making new force car companies, in addition to the well-known "Wei Xiaoli", it is Nezha, Zero Run and the dying WMA.

As for the new car-making car companies such as Extreme Krypton, Lantu, Zhiji and Avita, it can only be said that they are latecomers.

However, in the earliest batch of new car-making car companies, there is another brand that may not have a sense of presence in China, but it is mixed in the overseas market, and this brand is Aiways.

Foreign mixing is booming, and domestic can't even afford to pay wages, what happened to Aiways?

According to public information, Aiways was established in 2017 and its production base is located in Shangrao, Jiangxi. In 2018, the first model of the Aiways U5 made its world premiere, positioning it as a mid-size pure electric SUV.

Since 2020, Aiways has focused on overseas markets and has sold to 20 countries, including Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark and Israel in West Asia.

At the technical level, AIWAYS has a self-developed MAS intelligent pure electric platform, and there are currently two models on sale. They are Aiways U5 and Aiways U6, both of which are medium-sized pure electric SUVs.

Looking at the sales data, the cumulative export volume of AIWAYS in 2021 was 1,676 units, a year-on-year increase of 62.9%. By the end of 2022, the cumulative export volume of AIWAYS has reached 6,000 units. Such results are bright enough for a newly established car company.

Moreover, at the end of last year, Aiways also signed an order for 150,000 vehicles with a Thai company.

Through the above data, it is enough to see that Aiways is popular in overseas markets. Next, let's take a look at how AIWAYS performs in the domestic market.

According to sales data from the Passenger Association of China, the cumulative domestic sales of AIWAYS in 2020 and 2021 were 5,611 units, and the sales volume will decline to 856 units in 2022. In the first quarter of this year, the cumulative sales of Aiways cars were only 536 units.

Such dismal sales are also the main reasons why Aiways has almost no presence in the domestic market.

In the opinion of Che Kuai, the marketing idea of Aiways is still very correct. It avoided the fierce domestic competition for new energy vehicles and deployed overseas markets early. Not only is there not so much competitive pressure, but the price of bicycles is much higher than the domestic market.

Originally thought that relying on the good performance of overseas markets, Aiways should have a good life even if it did not make a lot of money. But I didn't expect that shortly after entering 2023, Aiways Cars exploded.

First, on April 10, Aiways issued a notice about the delay in the payment of wages in March. On May 10, an email about the delay in the payment of April wages by Aiways appeared on the Internet.

It is reported that Aiways has experienced a delay in the payment of wages before the postponement of the payment of March wages.

However, worse than the delay in payroll, the Aiways APP can no longer display properly. At the same time, an AIWAYS employee revealed that due to arrears of rent, property and utilities, Aiways can only work from home at present.

In addition, as early as March this year, AIWAYS' suppliers went to the Aiways headquarters to ask for arrears. An agent dealer of Aiways also told the media that the total of 500,000 yuan in decoration and test drive rebates promised by Aiways manufacturers has not yet arrived, and not a single car has been sold this year.

Now it seems that the current situation of Aiways is actually not much stronger than that of WM Motor. AIWAYS: What's wrong with this? Will it survive? It's all big question marks.
