Context menus, a core part of the operating system interface (especially File Explorer), have a new design, but there seems to be problems with performance. When a user right-clicks a file or folder in File Explorer, there is a delay in the context menu for Windows 11.

On some hardware, there is a delay of 1 to 2 seconds when right-clicking. Sometimes the Explorer's right-click menu flashes, as if trying to resize and load the main options. In this regard, Microsoft acknowledges that there is performance instability in this regard and has been working to reduce the impact of the new design.

With Windows 11 Build 22572, Microsoft offers additional fixes to make menus faster, and users have proven that context menus load much faster than before.

"We did some work in 22572 to improve the performance of context menus," said one Microsoft executive.

However, the Windows 11 update mentioned above failed to resolve a bug where the context menu sometimes opens larger than the original size and does not have an icon, and then re-adjusts itself.

If users don't like the new context menu, they can easily switch to the classic menu with the keyboard shortcut Shift + right mouse button.

IT House understands that the next relatively large Windows 11 update is scheduled to roll out in the fall of 2022 and is likely to fix most of the critical issues. For example, Version 2 or 22H2 will restore support for taskbar drag-and-drop, which will allow users to easily open files by simply dragging them onto the taskbar.
