Zhang Daohua's third branch of the 60th Military Hospital was responsible for the treatment of the wounded and sick of the 180th Division, and was assigned to the second echelon of the 180th Division. At that time, the Division Hospital and the Third Branch of the Army, which were located in Mingyueli, were first besieged, and there were more than 520 wounded and sick people, including more than 30 doctors and nurses.
After more than ten consecutive days of day and night fighting, by May 25, the 180th Division's troops of more than 10,000 people, only more than 4,000 people, in the face of the siege of the mechanized enemy, the situation was very critical, in order to avoid more casualties, only to break out.
At this time, the combat troops were trying their best to block the enemy's encirclement, unable to rush to protect the wounded. Division commander Zheng Qigui ordered the logistics organs, hospitals, and miscellaneous personnel to take advantage of the fact that the enemy's encirclement was not completely sealed, seize the opportunity to break through on their own, and rush out of the encirclement.
Zhang Jinxi, the president of the Third Branch of the Army, assigned 243 wounded to each doctor, nurse, and hygienist, and asked them to lead the wounded to break through.

She turned back and looked back, and suddenly a group of enemies spotted her and shot at her. The dexterous Chuan girl cleverly dodged and flew over to find the wounded, and he was just about to get up on his back when the enemy fired a bullet, and her eyes went black and she fell.
Half an hour later she woke up, and the wounded who were standing by cried and said they were going to carry her away. She firmly ordered the wounded to go first and go to the team. The wounded could not help her, left three grenades for her, and said: I will go to the troops to rescue you."
The wounded were gone, and Zhang Daohua was unconscious again. Awakened by the heavy rain, she found the sound of chattering, the enemy stepped forward and turned her body over, she held her breath, motionless, the enemy thought she was dead, and left.
The heavy rain continued to fall, and Zhang Daohua, who was cold, wet and hungry, was unconscious several times and almost lost consciousness. She found in pain that she couldn't see anything, and that the bullet had just passed through her left side of her head and robbed her of her light.
"You can't die here like this, you must go back, go back to the army, go back to the motherland!"
This strong belief supported her, and by feeling, blind in both eyes, she moved her body inch by inch, crawling towards the direction of her heart, north, dragging a long blood mark behind her.
According to later recollections, this should be the middle of the night of May 25, crawling for two hours, and then encountered the searching enemy soldiers kicking their bodies with large leather boots, smashing them on the body with the butt of their guns, she pretended to be motionless again, the enemy left, and she continued to crawl.
I don't know how long later, she heard a familiar voice in the trance of unconsciousness, exerted all her strength, and shouted loudly: Comrades-in-arms, save me.
Wang Yimin, the head of the second echelon of the 180th Division and director of the Division's Directly Subordinate Political Office, and Zhang Jie, chief of the Military Affairs Section, heard the shouting and ran to save her.
And it was they who listened to the report of the wounded man and came to rescue Zhang Daohua.
Zhang Daohua broke out with more than 4,000 comrades of the 180th Division, and she was sent to the rear hospital for treatment, because of her serious injuries and excessive blood loss, she could never see this beautiful world again.
In the Korean battlefield, her deeds quickly spread, becoming a well-known heroine, and was awarded first-class merit by the volunteer army headquarters after the war.
In December 1952, she participated in the report group of the returned British model of the Chinese Volunteer Army, and successively went to Beijing, Xi'an, Chengdu, Chongqing and other places to give reports.
In 1953, she was honored to attend the congress of the Chinese Communist Youth League and was received by Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yi and other party and state leaders.
