Zhang Baixi (1847-1907), ziye qiu, yi zuo ye qiu, number qianzhai . Born in Shaping, Changsha, Hunan. In the thirteenth year of Tongzhi (1874), he successively served as Shandong Xuezheng, Sichuan Township Examination Examiner, Guozi Supervisor Of Wine, Jiangxi Township Examination Examiner, Guangdong Xuezheng, Cabinet Scholar and Ceremonial Attendant, Libu Right Attendant, Duchayuan Zuo Du Yushi, Gongbu Shangshu, Bureaucrat Shangshu, Beijing Normal University Tangguan Xuexue Minister, Hubu Shangshu, and Shangshu of the Ministry of Posts and Communications. From January 1902 to January 1904, he was the president of Peking University.
Zhang Baixi was not only a minister of the Qing Dynasty, devoted his life to education, but also a calligrapher. His calligraphy is dignified and rigorous, the pen is strong and powerful, the pen and ink are full, and the strokes are stretched and follow the rules of the ancients, and they are vigorous and colorful.
