Last night at home, I watched a TV series with my mother, telling the story of a girl who dressed as a man to participate in the examination and accidentally passed the examination.
The last level of the imperial examination, that is, held every three years, in the capital by the emperor presided over the examination, the pass is the jinshi, the first among the jinshi, commonly known as "Zhuangyuan", the second name is "Bangyan", the third name is "Tanhua".
According to the encyclopedia, from the founding of the imperial examination in the Sui Dynasty until the abolition of the imperial examination at the end of the Qing Dynasty, in the nearly 1,300 years of history, China has produced a total of 552 titles, which is less than the number of existing giant pandas, which is a very rare animal.
There is a Xuejian village in Shanghai, because during the Qing Dynasty, the surname of Wang in the village won the Wu Xiucai, and the Songjiang Government gave a plaque "Xuejian Village", so the name of Xiucai Village also came into being, and so far, the roads and rivers in the village are named "Xuejian". Yixing also has a village called "Xiucai", and Zhangpu County in southern Fujian is also located in an antique, magnificent Qing Dynasty Xiucai village, all because there was a local student who was admitted to Xiucai.
Please note that in the real ancient agricultural society, it is enough to be admitted to a show, which is enough to make a village named; if you are admitted to lift a person and set up a pole in front of your own door, it is already considered to be a glorious ancestor; it is even more difficult to be admitted to the jinshi. For example, in the 212 years of our Taiwan Province's Qing Dynasty, only 31 people were admitted to the jinshi, and none of them were admitted to the yuan. In fact, at any point in time, among the hundreds of thousands of people in China who have devoted their lives to reading books in the name of merit, in the Tang Dynasty, there were only about 25 quotas for each listing, and the number of places in each dynasty after that was uncertain, which was remarkable but three or four hundred. In particular, it should be emphasized that the examination is only taken once every three years, and the zhongjinshi is probably more difficult to test than today's Chinese Academy of Sciences. Therefore, as long as they can pass the entrance examination, they are absolutely very remarkable figures, just as we will admit that the students of Tsinghua Peking University are all very good students, not only the first student is considered an excellent student.
However, in our classical Chinese drama, if the male protagonist is a scholar, the next scene of going to Beijing to take the exam must be to be admitted to the Yuan, which has become an inevitable formula, such as Chen Shimei in "The Case of Gongmei", Cai Boxue in "The Book of Pipa", Zhang Junrui in "The Book of the West Chamber", Xu Shilin in "The Legend of the White Snake", Li Yi in "The Book of Purple Chao", Wang Shipeng in "The Record of Jingchao", Wang Kui in "Wang Kui Negative Guiying", Chen Daguan in "Zhuangyuan Spectrum", and so on, as if not being admitted to the Yuanyuan is synonymous with falling on the list. The only desirable exception is Wang Jinlong of "Yutang Spring", who took the eighth place in the examination, and did not pass the examination for the title, probably because this is a true story adaptation.
In short, the champion is like a cheap thing in the drama, at your fingertips, on call, so that the current college entrance examination students can be crowned with the name of the champion. If he really took such a good exam, he would definitely be angry with thousands of ancient readers.
Look at the literary talents of the past and the present, the most famous Li Bai and Du Fu are not even jinshi, let alone Yuan;
"Eight Masters of the Tang and Song Dynasties": Han Yu, Liu Zongyuan, Ouyang Xiu, Su Xun, Su Shi, Su Rui, Zeng Gong, Wang Anshi, all eight of them are not Champions;
The "four great talents of Jiangnan" in the Ming Dynasty: Tang Bohu, Zhu Zhishan, Wen Zhengming, Xu Zhenqing, all of them are not Champions, and even only Xu Zhenqing has the qualification of a jinshi;
In the early Qing Dynasty, the three masters: Yuan Ming, Zhao Yi, and Jiang Shiquan, were all not Zhuangyuan; Ji Xiaolan, who was known as "Southern Yuan beiji" with Yuan Ming, was not a champion; Fang Bao and Yao Nai of the Tongcheng sect were not zhuangyuan; Pu Songling, who wrote notes and novels representing "Liaozhai Zhiyi", took a lifetime examination and was only admitted to Xiucai.
Forgive me for being lonely and unheard of, there are only a few real Zhuangyuanlang I know in history: the Tang Dynasty poets Wang Wei, He Zhizhang, Zhang Jiuling, the calligrapher Liu Gongquan, the Song Dynasty Writer Lü Mengzheng who wrote the Broken Kiln Fu, Wen Tianxiang who wrote the Song of Zhengqi, and the Qing Dynasty Guangxu Emperor's mentor Weng Tonggong. This shows that most of the people who have shined in history are not yuanyuan, and the drama uses the gold content of yuan to show the talent of the protagonist, which is obviously too hot.
Let go of these poor ancient readers, the yuan is so cheap, don't move the yuan anymore.
