So for automakers, even if you develop a pure electric MPV, even if the sales are good, it will be difficult to recover the cost of development, because the market size is too small.
Second, this has a lot to do with the model characteristics of the MPV. In general, the length of the PMV for business purposes exceeds 5 meters, and the wheelbase is about 3 meters. So their size is very large, even if the internal combustion engine is used, then their curb weight is also about two tons, and if you replace it with a pure electric car, then the battery is heavier. The quality of the preparation is probably 2.5 tons or even 3 tons. Such a big, such a heavy car, for the suspension system, the steering system, the braking system, including the tires are very large loads. It is necessary for automakers to develop separately and targetedly, so it is not easy to develop a pure electric MPV.
Third, this has a lot to do with the use cases of MPV. The 7-seat MPV for business purposes is mainly for picking up and dropping off VIP guests. Need to go to the airport frequently, high-speed rail stations, need to walk often long distances. But now pure electric vehicles are still common, the problem of shrinking mileage in winter, and the problem of mileage anxiety. So you can't always have guests sitting in the car in the highway service area waiting for you to charge for two hours.
And if you blindly increase the mileage by increasing the battery, it is not OKAY, just said that the battery is larger and heavier, and the quality of the maintenance is heavier. It will bring great trouble to the mechanical quality of the vehicle.
Fourth, this also has a lot to do with the manufacturing cost of pure electric MPV. If pure electric MPV wants to ensure sufficient endurance and practicality, it is necessary to use a particularly large battery. Then the cost is very high, it must be around 400,000 yuan, but now a very good fuel MPV, such as Buick GL8, which is about 200,000 yuan. Pure electric is more expensive than 200,000 yuan, then I take 200,000 yuan to refuel, I estimate that the fuel MPV will take at least ten or twenty years. Therefore, as a user, a simple calculation of the account to know whether to buy a pure electric MPV, which is why pure electric MPV has not developed from beginning to end.
