In 1935, when the 6-year-old Sun Jiadong reached the age of school, he was sent to school by his mother. But unfortunately, Sun Jiadong is a left-handed person like his mother, which brings great inconvenience to his study life. At that time, it was not easy to go to school, and the teachers' requirements were also high, and sun Jiadong was returned just two weeks after the semester.
Because left-handed people did not learn, the young Sun Jiadong was not discouraged. During the year of staying at home, Sun Jiadong practiced his right hand hard, and finally got the opportunity to go to Yingkou to study the following year. Here, he became more and more diligent, not only excelling in all subjects, but even practicing the divine skill of playing table tennis with both his left and right hands.
Sun Jiadong is smart and hardworking, how can such a person's learning career not be smooth? In 1948, Sun Jiadong was admitted to the preparatory class of Harbin Institute of Technology to learn Russian, and later transferred to the Department of Automobiles. At this point it seemed that he had little to do with aerospace, but the turning point of fate was coming soon, because of a bowl of braised pork.
In the Lantern Festival in 1950, Sun Jiadong was scheduled to return to his sister's house to celebrate the festival together. But tonight the school cares for the students and arranges for them to eat braised pork. Sun Jiadong planned to eat this bowl of braised pork at school and then return to his sister's house.
And just as he was eating meat, the chopsticks had not yet been removed. The school leaders suddenly came to the cafeteria and informed the students who were eating that the National Air Force had come to recruit. If you are in a hurry, you will rush to Beijing that night.
Just when New China was just founded, the country began to form its own people's air force, and it was in urgent need of high-quality talents. Sun Jiadong did not hesitate, after eating this bowl of meat, he signed up on the spot, and because he had studied Russian, he was immediately selected as a much-needed Russian translator to join the army. At this time, the Chinese Air Force and the Soviet Union had frequent exchanges, and Sun Jiadong, as a high-caliber student of Russian language and engineering, touched the door of aerospace in this way.
Three years later, in 1951, Sun Jiadong was sent to the Soviet Union to study aircraft engine technology. Here, he eagerly learned knowledge, and set a grand ambition to serve the country with science and technology.
Han Yu once said that Maxima is often there, but Bole is not often there. Sun Jiadong was fortunate to meet a Bole who appreciated him, it was Qian Xuesen, who was evaluated by the United States as "worth five divisions".
In April 1958, after sun jiadong returned from studying in the Soviet Union, he was assigned to the first branch of the fifth academy of the Ministry of National Defense (the predecessor of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology) to engage in missile research. At this time, China's missile industry began from imitation, and a large number of drawings and materials from the Soviet Union needed to be digested by technicians. These young lads studied at the same time as they worked, both studying Soviet drawings and following the teachers under Qian Xuesen's arrangement. In this process, Qian Xuesen often looked at Sun Jiadong with his thoughts on the overall idea of missile shooting.
In March 1967, when the country was speeding up the pace of aviation development, Qian Xuesen recommended Sun Jiadong to General Nie Rongzhen and asked him to lead the development of the mainland's "Dongfanghong I" satellite. In this regard, Sun Jiadong changed from engaging in missiles to satellites.
What happened next is now known to us all.
