Sharon, a post-80s Hong Kong mother born in Toronto, Canada, grew up in Hong Kong and got married and had children. She had already planned for her children to go to university in Canada, and the family of four decided to immigrate early and settled in Vancouver in July of the previous year.
Before immigrating, Sharon lived in Xinghua Village, Chai Wan, and worked as an advertising and cosmetics agent until the past five or six years before she turned to a full-time mother. She has a pair of children, aged about 15 and 16, "when she was born, she considered letting them go to university in Canada". One day in 2019, she accidentally saw the Canadian Consulate holding an education exhibition, so she came to the scene to understand the further education process, "Count a number of the original Grade 10 to start counting credits, that is, 2021, want to let him go when he arrives, will the mood be too rushed?" To re-adapt to life, but also to enter the university exam credits, the impact is very big", so decided to let his son pass a year earlier.
"We were thinking of coming to Vancouver to see, try to live and see the environment, and return to Hong Kong in a month", planning to immigrate after a year. But the plan often can't keep up with the changes, after the outbreak of the epidemic in Hong Kong in 2019, the husband who is engaged in the advertising industry is facing a career bottleneck, accelerating the pace of immigration for her and her husband, "in 2019, she decided to become a family immigrant, released in February 2020, and sold the floor within a month".
Although Sharon was born in Canada, but grew up in Hong Kong, has never set foot in Canada since then, until the current immigration, like many Hong Kong people are new immigrants. However, the optimistic she did not worry about the way forward, "I thought it would not be impossible, and the mood really looked forward (looking forward to) what would happen." Go to say, is there a house? I don't know, there must be some, depending on whether you are willing or not, whether you like it or not. What your job is, it's just that you're willing to do it. If you are very demanding and don't like this or this colleague, then you will not be happy wherever you go, this is the mentality." During the interview, Sharon always had a smile on his face and occasionally made a silver bell-like laugh, showing his optimistic personality.
She now finds a part-time job as a restaurant waitress near her home, working several days a week. "There were already plans before coming, in short, if you find a room, you will find a part time (part-time), a good chill (relaxed), maybe a cup of coffee", but the reality is the opposite, it just so happens that this restaurant is the most popular Singapore restaurant in the local area, laughing that "I thought about returning to work so busy and pay attention to speed, but they are all happy". She explains, "There's always a time to go out, because you have to step out of society and build a new life, and if not, you're still in your own circle."
The Sharon family's immigration process went smoothly, but in the face of the separation from their closest friends, their hearts were mixed. When she thought that everything had settled down, but because of the heating triggered the skin redness and swelling problem, she found that the negative emotions in her heart had not been ignored. "At the end of 2020, I thought I was so busy, I began to settle down (stable), personally something, it turned out that my mood in my heart was so emotionally unstable", and said, "My skin has a big problem, and now my skin is a little swollen." But at that time, the whole face was swollen, so swollen on the first day, and then slowly disappeared on the second day, and then it swollen again."
She has consulted Chinese and Western doctors but there is no improvement, but the doctors invariably ask her if she has a stress problem, "Ponder for a while, I am worried, everything is handled well; but reflect on it, it is impossible to be stressed, it is impossible to have no emotions, and I have always left my family and friends." She recalls that when she first immigrated, there were many changes in the living environment, "there may be a fixed life in Hong Kong, ... to come to a new place and a new change, but there is no family and friends to accompany, then I will cry when I think of this."
She continued, "I don't know if you will be particularly aggressive towards your aunt, try not to let her know bad things, every time you are reporting good news and not worrying..." She admitted that since immigrating, she has become more close to her mother, and she has been with her mother whatsApp every day, and she hopes that the epidemic will improve at the end of this year and she can return to Hong Kong to visit her relatives.
The Sharon family, who have lived in Vancouver for 1/2 years, have adapted to local life and established their own lives and circles of friends, and have no regrets about their decision to immigrate. This Lunar New Year encountered the outbreak of the epidemic again, every time the new season loves the feast of relatives and friends, she said, "The New Year atmosphere has become more deserted, straight-headed flies fly over to hear, she asked a few friends to eat dinner", and sighed that "the Lunar New Year's Reunion Dinner should be eaten with the family, these characters are here, it is not that thing, only to chat with relatives to comfort."
For Hong Kong people who will or plan to come to Canada, she has repeatedly stressed the importance of mentality, especially those who immigrate with their partners, "You must be consistent in your wishes, and when you decide to come over, you must look forward from the bottom of your heart." She said more emphatically that they "should appreciate each other, don't be afraid, have courage and unity." Due to the high cost of eating out in Canada, if you are not familiar with cooking, she recommends learning to cook some home-cooked dishes first, laughing that "if you cook well, the other half will be better."
She also hopes that her children who come to Canada with their parents will understand that "in fact, mom and dad are not superman or superwoman, each family member has their own role, it is also very important, and everyone needs support or companionship.".
