The Word of Wisdom (Translation)

In every country in the world, there are good suggestions that are expressed in the old sayings. These old sayings are called aphorisms.

Most of the maxims are so old that no one knows who was the first to say them. Some aphorisms suggest the best way to do things. Others tell people how to get along with people. Others tell people how to do it.

Many aphorisms are often the same everywhere. Many give the same advice that differs slightly.

Rome: The hungry are the best cooks.

India: Hungry people don't care about ignorance.

France: For the hungry, there is no bad bread.

These aphorisms mean that if you are very hungry, you will eat anything. You will not care about the taste of it.

Spain: Cures Sancho, but causes Martha to fall ill.

England: One man's flesh is another man's poison.

France: What is bad for one person is good for another.

What these maxims mean is that people like different things. You will love certain things very much. But others don't like it.

UK: Rush leads to losses.

China: It is easy to make mistakes in busyness, and slow work is a small work.

Spain: It is better to pour water into a bottle than to spill it.

The meaning of these maxims is that if you try to do something quickly, you will not be able to do it well.

Iran: A sparrow in the hand, stronger than a falcon in the air.

Rome: The value of a bird in a hand is stronger than two birds in a bush.

Yugoslavia: Today's oat bread is better than tomorrow's pastry.

The meaning of these maxims is that what you have is the best. Don't fantasize about what you can't get.

Poland: Digging a pit for someone else, and burying yourself.

Bible: He who digs a pit will himself fall into it.

Rome: Betray others first, betray yourself last.

What these maxims mean is that if you do something to hurt someone, it will happen to you.
