The Kosovo War, which lasted from March 24, 1999 to June 10, 1999, is undoubtedly a scar on people's hearts in the last year of the 20th century. The trigger of this war is national contradictions, but its outbreak and spread are undoubtedly fueled by the United States and NATO. Shortly after Yugoslavia signed the armistice agreement, Russia also formally intervened in the situation in the Balkans by means of the seizure of the strategic airport in Kosovo, which effectively deterred the Western countries.

On June 10, 1999, the United Nations Security Council formally adopted a resolution on Kosovo. Under the agreement, Yugoslavia would withdraw its troops in Kosovo and Kosovo would be disarmed and become a zone of peace, temporarily taken over by a United Nations presence.

The NATO coalition is already eager to try the next move into the Kosovo region. Russia, on the other hand, is depressed. Kosovo is located in the Balkans, in a fortress, and allowing Kosovo to fall completely under NATO control is a threat to Russia. Moreover, the countries that submitted the report on the resolution on Kosovo to the United Nations on the 10th included Russia, but the United Nations only authorized NATO troops to enter the post-war areas to maintain law and order, which obviously put Russia at a disadvantage.

NATO's goal is to rapidly promote Kosovo's de jure and de facto separation from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and its transformation into an independent State. If Russia cannot show its influence in this matter, then its subsequent dealings with Western countries led by the United States will undoubtedly be more difficult.

So on June 11, 1999, a secret telegram from Moscow was sent to the United Nations peacekeeping force stationed in northern Kosovo and sent to Russian officers. This peacekeeping force was sent by many countries to observe the ceasefire between the warring parties after the end of the Bosnian War, and has many years of experience in the northern part of Kosovo. Although the supreme commander at this time was the Americans, as long as a small force was sent to set out independently, it could successfully evade the attention of the United States.

So a small Russian force of only 200 people quietly set off, riding in military trucks and disguised as Kosovo peacekeepers for 640 kilometers, preemptively occupying the airport, an important transportation point in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.

Russia's operation was very smooth, although Yugoslavia promised to withdraw its troops, but it was still unwilling to completely hand over Kosovo, at this time the help from Russia is undoubtedly a very favorable choice, the two countries on the issue of the airport hit it off. Russia has completely gained control of Pristina airport.

So when the British-led NATO troops slowly arrived at the Slavina airport, they found that it had been occupied by Russia. NATO forces immediately surrounded the airfield and tried to airlift a small number of troops in by helicopter, but Russia, with 200 soldiers, kept Britain firmly out of the defensive line.

The situation was deadlocked until formal talks between Britain and Russia followed the intervention of the United States. Russia, on the basis of continuing to maintain control of the airport, agreed to set aside a corner for NATO troops to be stationed, and the two sides will jointly maintain peace and stability in the Kosovo region until the United Nations adopts a new resolution.

#Kosovo War With the preemptive occupation of Pristina airport, Russia gained the de facto initiative in follow-up negotiations with NATO. It not only defended its own interests, but also gave the Western contempt a fierce slap.
