Children always have many question marks for the world, but in the eyes of adult reason, those question marks are full of strangeness. In fact, children often need not the most correct answers, but to feel the illogical but interesting poetry of ordinary life with them. In the "Walking Trilogy", the brother and brother are at first just a simple question and a answer, the world of the two people is a real and a fantasy, and in the third "Camping", the brother also follows the younger brother into his imagination, leaving a suspense for the reader to taste the fun of "continuing to expand the mind".

The first book of the trilogy, Walk, was completed as early as 2018. At the time, I wasn't sure if I had a chance to publish them, so I started creating them in one fell swoop. I still vividly remember the weekend I finished painting "Walking", I went to the countryside for an afternoon of idle shopping and slept on the uninhabited grass. It was an ordinary and dazed day in my twenties. I think among the many forms of books, picture books seem to be the simplest, but in fact, it can be very rich, can be very interesting and profound, and can load the entire universe.

Da Wu is a post-90s picture book writer and illustrator. He has illustrated the works of Keigo Higashino, Li Juan, Liu Liangcheng and other writers. Its picture book "Tree King" was selected as one of the "100 Best Picture Books in the World" in 2019 by the British website dPICTUS.

Beijing News: Are the three stories in the "Walking Trilogy" related to the real life of your childhood? Do you still have similar imaginations when you walk now?
Wu: Yes, there are a lot of real-world examples, like speculations about things underground and optical illusions. Most importantly, we were very fond of wandering in the wild as children and had many of those experiences. Walking around the city now, it is rare to have any imagination... However, you will find many interesting details, such as the frequent discovery of bird's nests.
Beijing News: The "Walking Trilogy" guidebook has a song you created for this set of picture books, why do you want to create it?
DaWu: I wrote a lot of songs when I was a teenager, one of which was contested in school, and then most people in the class would sing it, just like "class song", and on many occasions there would be a chorus, which was a very good memory of middle school. However, due to the lack of professional music theory knowledge and the lack of related work, most of the songs did not stay. I always feel a little regretful. After drawing the "Walking Trilogy", I felt that it was the right time, so I wrote "Walking Song" as a grand memorial.

Beijing News: You are a science student graduated from the Department of Computer Science, what kind of opportunity made you embark on the road of picture book creation?
Wu: About ten years ago, I was first exposed to animated short films and I was very shocked. Their experimental and free feelings had a great impact on me; later, I tried to draw, found that I could color with a mouse, and so I groped for the road to painting... I chose picture books because I have a strong desire to tell stories, and secondly, I don't have the conditions to do animation at the moment, picture books are the most appropriate form, it is a stage on paper.
Beijing News: From trying to create picture books to now publishing 6 books, do you have any special feelings about the creation and publication of original picture books?
DaWu: Many people have their own understanding and methods of picture book creation, and I think each has its own reason, but it is not all agreed. All theories and experiences are based on past works and experiences and cannot be used as the only criterion. All creation and reading is subjective. It's best to be vigilant, open,and explore new possibilities.
