Picture books are important because childhood is important. In the first years of life, beautiful stories, gentle colors, and moments of emotional agitation when reading will become the background of the future children's personality and character, and will also be the feelings and patterns they give to the world. Therefore, the significance of high-quality picture book resources for children's education is self-evident. In order to promote the development and application of original picture books for children in mainland China, the 2021 Annual Ranking Conference of Original Picture Books and the School Picture Book Reading Teaching Forum jointly sponsored by the China Picture Book Creation Research Center of Beijing Normal University, the Education Group of Beijing Normal University and the Asia-Pacific Experimental School of Beijing Normal University were held in the Asia-Pacific Experimental School of Beijing Normal University.

At the forum, Mr. HaiFei, vice chairman of the China Publishers Association and chairman of the jury of the annual ranking of original picture books, and Professor Zhang Li, deputy dean of the College of Literature of Beijing Normal University, jointly unveiled the list of ten outstanding works selected for the 2021 annual ranking, "Lost Children", "Three Friends", "Gale", "Motionless Competition", "River Tour", "Don't Hide and Seek with Glutinous Rice Tuan", "Different 1", "A Fairy and Two Seven-Year-Old Girls", "The Life Journey of a Lotus Seed", "My Family Has a Little Fairy" and so on. Writers and painters representatives Mo Yan, Jin Bo, Yu Rong, Liu Haiqi, Luo Ling, Chang Li, etc. have combined their own creative experiences to deliver their own acceptance speeches.
"Gale" is Mr. Mo Yan based on a past from his childhood adapted, and the memory of facing the challenge of the wind with his grandfather planted a tenacious and indomitable seed in the depths of the author's heart, and gradually grew into a courageous and positive spiritual force in the later life; the famous writer Jin Bo and the painter Yu Rong jointly created "The Lost Child" will be the children's exploration of independence and security with pictures and words to express vividly, maybe every child has been a lost child, But after all kinds of searching, gradually growing up, and becoming a happy and lucky child; the famous children's literature writer Liu Haiqi and the young artist Luo Ling jointly created the "Three Friends" that integrates the wisdom of Chinese folk tales and the charm of traditional art; Teacher Luo Ling gets inspiration from the Dunhuang murals, using colors to represent the different personalities of the characters, the story has three different colors at the beginning, but with the development of the story, these colors continue to collide and intertwine, just like the interaction between people. In the end, it became a colorful world, three friends grew up together, transformed together, and the personality was no longer a single "color"; "There is a Little Immortal in My Family" was created by Chang Li teacher according to the daily growth story of his children, which has rich traditional Chinese cultural elements, telling the conflict and integration of the little brother and sister in their growth, showing the mutual promotion and mutual achievement of the two children's hearts. There is a big Easter egg behind the book, which is a real composition written by my brother, which echoes the previous content of the picture book, leaving it to the readers to explore and discover for themselves!
The sharing of the creative experience of each writer and painter is a spiritual offering to the reader.
During the forum, Mr. Zhu Yongxin, a well-known educator, Mr. Haifei, Chairman of the Jury, and Professor Chen Hui of Beijing Normal University also held relevant discussions on children's picture book reading. Mr. Zhu Yongxin expressed his views on "the significance of schools in children's picture book reading". He believes that in the era of in-depth promotion of reading for all, ensuring children's fair right to read is of great significance to ensuring social fairness in the future. The school is more about cultivating children's reading habits and reading thinking, so that reading becomes a good quality for children to accompany them for life; Mr. Haifei made a brief explanation of the characteristics of the children's book market and the characteristics of children's books, and Professor Chen Hui made corresponding supplements.
During the interactive session, the teachers of the Asia-Pacific Experimental School of Beijing Normal University actively asked questions and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with experts on issues such as classic reading, the selection criteria for the original picture book rankings, and the conflict between electronic and paper books.
At the scene of the event, the teachers of the Asia-Pacific Experimental School of Beijing Normal University also made wonderful presentations on five picture book reading classes. Teacher Ma Yan and Teacher Yang Xiaokun of the sixth grade respectively demonstrated the teaching of the two picture books "Magpie's Nest" and "Gale", presenting the spiritual world of Chinese and nature from different angles. Fourth grade teacher Li Wenmei's "Lost Child", with the exploration of the growth process of "a lost child" to "a happy and lucky child" as a clue, leads students into an interesting and rich imaginary world, following the jumping words, simple but cute lines to understand the innocence of children's dreams. The first-grade teacher Zhai Jingjing's "Three Friends" and the preschool teacher Cao Fangfei's "Different "1"" combine the learning characteristics of students of different ages, and present the spiritual connotation of picture books and the qualities required for students' growth in the classroom to the greatest extent.
Zhang Yanling, a senior expert in the teaching method of the College of Literature of Beijing Normal University, commented on the demonstration class, and gave high praise and recognition to the consistent efforts and innovations of the Asia-Pacific Experimental School in the reading education of students, and also gave valuable suggestions, such as combining the high-quality content of picture books with the literacy of language disciplines, and trying to use the form of projects to do comparative research of picture books.
Xu Xiangdong, president of the Asia-Pacific Experimental School of Beijing Normal University, said that the school will take the reading of school picture books as the main body on the basis of releasing the annual excellent original picture book works, further promote Chinese original picture books to enter the classroom of Chinese children, penetrate into the hearts of Chinese children, and further improve the quality and reform of school reading education by promoting teaching through research.
