AEB refers to Autonomic Emergency Braking, that is, active braking system, founded by americans, is based on overseas traffic environment design products, this product test first appeared overseas, so most AEB products are not particularly suitable for domestic road conditions. This is also the starting point for the ideal car to decide to develop its own AEB.

Abandoning the supplier's mature solution means that everything has to be done from scratch. The 2021 Ideal ONE, which has just been launched, was not as good as the 2020 Ideal ONE when it was first launched, because the 2020 Ideal ONE is equipped with the more stable AEB products provided by the supplier. But in just three months, the AEB level of the 2021 ideal ONE has improved dramatically.

Recently, Ideal Auto CEO Li Xiang posted a small essay on his personal Weibo account, sharing some of Ideal Auto's achievements in intelligent driving in 2021.

The content li xiang talked about mainly has three aspects, one is that the activation and use of the NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) navigation assistance system pushed by Ideal Car in the second half of last year has exceeded 60,000 units, more than the sum of other brands in the Chinese market, and ideal cars will continue to be equipped with NOA navigation assisted driving as standard.

It is understood that as an annual test project of the car emperor, AEB's active brake test project has pulled more than 100 cars in total, and the span of models is also very wide, from affordable cars to luxury cars, from cars to SUVs, covering almost all daily models, including BMW, Volvo and other powerful players.

So why would the ideal car choose to take such a path?

AEB testing first appeared overseas, and the European E-NCAP added AEB items to the scoring rules in 2014, and many car companies such as Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Ford, Subaru and other car brands were already equipped with AEB systems.

After that, domestic car companies are also equipped with AEB functions, because most of them are purchased from suppliers, so the result is that many models are equipped with AEB functions, but this function may not be easy to use.

The 2020 Ideal ONE adopts the solution provided by Mobileye, but its system is too closed, and the core algorithm is not open to car companies, which leads to the ideal car needs to carry out a lot of communication when optimizing certain functions, which invisibly reduces efficiency.

In order to eliminate this drawback, Ideal Auto ended its cooperation with Mobileye at the end of 2020, using the domestic chip manufacturer Horizon Journey 3 chip on the 2021 model, which can provide 10TOPS computing power.

But more importantly, Horizon only provides chips, and the ideal car can officially open the full-stack self-research in intelligent driving, and the progress is fast, in the second half of 2021, it will push the fully self-developed NOA navigation auxiliary driving function, and also realize the full-stack self-development in AEB.

Third, have closed-loop data AEB rapid iteration

But there are also many difficulties in developing the AEB system from scratch, which means that the ideal car must endure the poor performance of the 2021 ideal ONE AEB system for a period of time.

At the beginning of September last year, the Zhihu car dismantling laboratory tested the AEB function of the 2021 ideal ONE, and the results showed that the AEB function of the 2021 ideal ONE could not be effectively braked in front of the test dummy.

Ideal Auto responded on September 7 that the test results were true, mainly because the full-stack self-developed Ideal AD assisted driving system had not yet been pushed to users, and the tested vehicles had not yet been upgraded by the system.

At the same time, Ideal Auto also said that it will conduct an internal test of the full-stack self-developed driver assistance system at the end of October, and then gradually push it to users.

Judging from the test results of the understanding car emperor this time, the ideal car full-stack self-developed auxiliary driving system has progressed very rapidly, and has completed a qualitative leap in three months.

This is also inseparable from the data closed-loop advantage of the ideal car, due to the use of the full-stack self-development method, the ideal car on the vehicle driving data can be well used, for some unique situations on the domestic road, the ideal car research and development team can be targeted code rewriting and test verification, so the products made are more in line with the real traffic conditions in China.

At the same time, Ideal Auto also chose the millimeter wave radar + vision fusion solution in the research and development of AEB, and most car companies' AEB is based on millimeter wave radar solutions. To make a simple analogy, AEB products that only use millimeter-wave radar are like a blind person relying on a blind cane to explore the road ahead, and after adding visual fusion, it is equivalent to adding a pair of eyes to the blind person, and the identification of the road ahead is more accurate.

The 2021 ideal ONE adopts Bosch's fifth-generation millimeter wave radar, with a horizontal field of view of up to 120 degrees, an angle radar of 150 degrees, and a detection distance of more than 110 meters; in terms of cameras, it uses an 8 million pixel camera, and the hardware quality is very prominent.

It is the advantages of closed-loop data and excellent hardware combination that allow the 2021 ideal ONE AEB system to be rapidly iterated. At present, the 2021 ideal ONE can already identify complex road conditions such as highway traffic accident scenes and road construction sites, ensuring the safety of users' cars to the greatest extent.

Overall, Ideal Car has fully mastered the capabilities of a full-stack self-developed intelligent driving system. At present, only Tesla, Ideal and Xiaopeng in the world have the ability of full-stack self-developed intelligent driving.
