CES2022: 610 hp BMW releases iX M60 SUV

At the 2022 International Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday, BMW unveiled an upcoming, higher-performance version of the iX SUV, the M60.

The M60 uses the same 111.5 kWh battery pack and dual electric motor setup as the standard iX. But when the xDrive50 produces 516 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque, the iX M60 raises those numbers to 610 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque — anyway, when using start control. Under normal operating conditions, the iX M60 produces 532 horsepower and 749 pound-feet of torque.

In the case of activating control, BMW estimated the iX M60's 0-60 mph time to 3.6 seconds, which is a full second faster than the iX xDrive50, which is not inferior. According to BMW, the M60 is equipped with adaptive air suspension that allows each wheel of the SUV to be automatically leveled and "compensates for unbalanced loads." Variable-ratio steering and a larger brake system with blue calipers are standard, as are driver assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control and park assist.

As for endurance, the official EPA figure is still unknown. Currently, BMW estimates that the iX M60 has a range of 280 miles when equipped with smaller 21-inch wheels; larger 22-inch wheels will definitely affect the range. For comparison, the iX xDrive50 is expected to travel about 300 miles per charge. Like the xDrive50, the iX M60 can accept DC fast charging at speeds up to 250 kW, which means the battery can go from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes.

Inside, the M60 is no different from other iX models, which is good for us. The interior of the iX is amazing – spacious, beautifully designed, and definitely highly tech-savvy. BMW's iDrive 8 software runs on a curved infotainment display, and the M60 comes standard with Bowers & Wilkins surround sound systems, keyless entry, ventilated seats and heating. Seriously. Seats, steering wheels, armrests, door panels and dashboards are heated.

Thanks to the extra power and added standard features, the iX M60 won't be cheap. BMW confirmed the M60's price tag of $106,095, including a $995 destination fee, which makes it about $22,000 more expensive than the iX xDrive50. It's not a small amount of money, but the iX M60 also looks like a whole bunch of electric cars. It will arrive at the BMW dealership in June.
