Lin Huiyin was born in Hangzhou, Jiangnan Province, Lin Huiyin's father, Lin Changmin, graduated from Waseda University in Japan, was good at poetry and calligraphy, and served as the head of the judicial team of the Beiyang government. In 1916, because his father served in the Beiyang government, the family moved to Beijing, Lin Huiyin studied at the Beijing Peihua Girls' High School, and in the spring of a year after the May Fourth Movement, Lin Changmin was given an opportunity to study in Europe.
The father who studied in Japan was cheerful and unconventional. After some thought, he decided to take 16-year-old Lin Huiyin with him to Europe. He said to Lin Huiyin: "I am traveling this time with Ru. First, I want you to look at the affairs of the nations and increase your knowledge, and second, you must be close to me and be able to understand my chest and embrace. Third, it is necessary to temporarily leave the tedious life of the family, broaden our vision, and cultivate the insight and ability to improve society in the future. So Xu Zhimo ignored the fact that Zhang Youyi was still pregnant, and could not wait to abandon his wife, and after issuing a divorce notice, he hurried to propose to Lin Huiyin.
