Not a cold! If your child has these conditions, be sure to seek medical treatment in time, otherwise the intestines will be remorseful!

In the winter, many babies will have a runny nose, watching the children continue to suffer, many parents will feel pain and anxiety.

On December 8, a girl in Yichun, Jiangxi Province, had a runny nose due to a cold, her breathing was not smooth, she did not get better after taking medicine, and she did not buy a nasal suction device, so the new father did not sleep all night, and sucked her daughter with her mouth, and the child's nasal congestion situation was indeed much better.

The child's mother said that her husband was willing to do such a thing, she was very touched, and she could also appreciate the father's deep love for the child.

However, touching is moving, and this father's actions are actually very dangerous.

Adult oral cavity is likely to infect the virus bacteria, and if it is serious, it may even lead to the death of children.

So, the child's nasal congestion and runny nose are always not good, why is it? What are the correct ways to deal with it?

Today, I will find out.

1

Why is my baby prone to runny nose?

Nasal discharge is the mucus secreted by the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, which can prevent dryness of the nasal cavity and also resist the invasion of harmful substances.

When the nose inhales microorganisms such as dust, pollen, bacteria, etc., the nose will try its best to grasp them and prevent them from irritating the respiratory tract or causing infection.

Under normal circumstances, the nasal mucosa produces 500-1000 ml of secretion per day, most of which enters the digestive system, the rest of which evaporates, and some of which drys up into the nasal feces that everyone is familiar with.

When your baby is sick, the nasal mucosa can be overloaded, producing a lot of nasal discharge, clogging the nostrils or flowing down irrepressibly.

Common causes include colds, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis and chronic rhinitis.

Different causes, the style of snot is different, want to know what the baby has a runny nose, you must not be afraid of nausea, take a good look at the snot.

Causes of runny nose in babies

1. Acute rhinitis (cold)

Colds are self-limiting diseases, with an average course of 7-14 days, generally a large amount of nasal discharge, initially watery or slightly sticky, and as the disease progresses, the nasal discharge may become white, yellow or light green.

Some babies may have mild sore throat or cough, and in severe cases, varying degrees of fever.

But be careful to distinguish from influenza conditions.

Symptoms of influenza are heavier than those of the common cold, mainly manifested by repeated high fevers, severe sore throat and cough, and may also be accompanied by muscle pain, headache, nausea and vomiting.

At this time, it is necessary to go to the hospital for testing to determine the type of epidemic virus.

2. Allergic rhinitis

The amount of nasal discharge is large, usually watery, with sneezing (more than 3 at a time) and itchy nose, especially when the baby has just woken up.

Some babies are also accompanied by other allergy symptoms and diseases, such as itchy eyes, red eyes, tears, itchy throat, ear discomfort, eczema, asthma, etc., but generally do not have sore throat, fever symptoms.

Allergic rhinitis can occur perennially or seasonally.

It should be noted that babies with allergic rhinitis often have a bluish-purple color under the eyes, which is caused by poor circulation caused by rhinitis, and it is not the dark circles caused by not sleeping well.

Allergic rhinitis is closely related to allergens, and while treating, it is necessary to find and remove the causes of your baby's allergies in time.

3. Sinusitis

The nasal discharge is mostly yellow mucus-purulent, bilateral or unilateral, and the baby often feels nasal congestion, headache, dizziness, etc. during the attack, often accompanied by repeated high fever.

If you have a yellow purulent nose after a cold, mothers should be vigilant, and the baby is likely to suffer from acute bacterial sinusitis and needs to go to the hospital for treatment.

4. Chronic rhinitis

The snot is mostly mucusous, the amount is uncertain, good and bad, and can be repeated for several months or more.

When encountering night or cold air, symptoms that are difficult to alleviate are easy to recur.

In addition to nasal congestion and runny nose, there are generally no other symptoms, and when you go to the hospital for examination, all indicators are normal.

5. Nasal polyps

The nasal discharge is watery when not infected, yellow-green purulent when infected, and your baby may experience nasal congestion and dizziness.

At this time, the baby needs to be taken to the ENT department for diagnosis and treatment.

6. Cysts in the sinuses

The snot is yellow and watery, and once found, it should be treated in the hospital in time.

7. Atrophic rhinitis

The snot is less, thicker, often yellow-green, smelly, and has more dry scabs (snot).

8. Fungal infections

In the absence of inhalation of large amounts of soot, a black snot appears.

Fungal infection is a very stubborn disease, and once diagnosed, it should be treated aggressively and followed by medical advice.

9. Special circumstances require attention

There is another situation that parents need to pay attention to.

If the baby has been traumatized, a clear watery snot is flowing out, especially unilaterally, increasing when the head is bowed, and the liquid is not crusted after drying, then it is necessary to be alert to the possibility of cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea.

This is the cerebrospinal fluid flowing out of the nasal cavity through intracranial damage, which can easily lead to intracranial infection and intracranial hypertension, which is a very dangerous disease.

If you can't be sure, go to the hospital as soon as possible and ask a doctor to help judge to avoid delays in diagnosis and treatment.

Baby who loves runny nose

Take care of it that way

First, blow your nose correctly

Incorrect nose blowing can cause nasal mucosal damage and otitis media, so in addition to taking the baby to the doctor in time, we also need to teach him to blow his nose.

It is recommended to choose a softer or baby-specific tissue to blow the nose, so as to avoid frequent blowing of the nose and causing redness and peeling of delicate skin.

Second, normal saline to clean the nasal cavity

If the snot is too viscous and not easy to blow out, you can try to use a warm towel to gently apply to the nostrils, or you can use a saline spray to soften and dilute it to help your baby clean up the snot.

· Within 1 year of age: nasal secretions can be softened with normal saline drops, and then the nasal discharge can be sucked out with a nasal suction device;

· 1-3 years old: you can use saline spray or syringe to wash your nose, you need to open your mouth to make an "ah" sound when using;

· 3 years old or older: You can put normal saline into a squeeze bottle for nose washing, and you also need to open your mouth to make an "ah" sound when using it.

3. Use humidifier

Increase indoor humidity with a humidifier (humidity is maintained at 50%-60%), it is best to use pure water in the humidifier, clean the machine every day, and maintain hygiene.

Fourth, other daily precautions

When sleeping, you can let the child lie on his side (if the baby is difficult to turn over, the adult should accompany him), or put a pillow to raise the child's upper body to help the discharge of secretions and slow down the nasal congestion.

Babies with weak physique also need to strengthen exercise, increase nutrition in a balanced manner, and pay attention to increasing or decreasing clothing in the season when the temperature difference between day and night is large.

The living environment is kept clean and tidy, in addition to changing clothes frequently, it is also necessary to do a good job of anti-mite and anti-cockroach work.

Fifth, the situation is serious and requires medical treatment

If the baby's symptoms are very serious and the above treatment methods cannot be effectively alleviated, it is necessary to take the baby to the hospital otolaryngology department for treatment.
