On December 14, 2021, Toyota held a press conference on Toyota's global electric vehicle strategy through online live broadcast, which was personally presided over by Akio Toyoda, CEO of Toyota Group, and announced the future global electric vehicle strategy of Toyota and Lexus brands, and by 2030, it will invest in the development of 30 BEV models and invest 8 trillion yen ($70 billion) to develop full-line electric vehicles, in order to demonstrate the brand's determination and strength in the field of BEV pure electric vehicles. It also emphasizes Toyota's strong intentions as a manufacturer of a full range of carbon-neutral vehicles.
Toyota Akio said at the press conference that it is expected that the group will reach the sales target of 3.5 million electric vehicles per year in 2030, the luxury brand Lexus is expected to reach the sales target of 1 million electric vehicles in 2030, and in Europe, North America, China and other regions, Lexus is expected to provide a full range of electric vehicle sales lineup in 2030, and achieve a luxury brand converted into pure electric in 2035.
At the live press conference, Toyota and Lexus brands showed as many as 16 pure electric models for the first time, and will also be put into mass production in the future. Among them, in the Toyota brand part, in addition to the bZ4X model of the pure electric SUV that has launched the mass production specifications, it also includes the bZ Small Corssover small crossover SUV, the bZ Compact SUV crossover sports SUV, the bZ SDN four-door sedan, and the bZ Large SUV large sports SUV that debuted for the first time.
It also includes Mid Box and Micro Box multi-purpose models belonging to the Toyota brand, as well as Sports EV pure electric sports cars, Crossover EV crossover pure electric models, Compact Cruiser EV off-road pure electric models, Pickup EV pure electric pickup trucks, and Small SUEV micro pure electric SUV. It is worth noting that toyota's new lineup of electric vehicles displayed here is not all hung with the name of the bZ series, and the above non-bZ series models are named after the Life Style series, emphasizing the unique use of models and personalized configurations.
In the Lexus brand part, in addition to the new pure electric cross-border SUV RZ revealed earlier, it also includes electrified Sedan four-door pure electric coupe, Electrified SUV large pure electric sports SUV and Electrified Sport double-door pure electric coupe. At the press conference, the specifications of many pure electric vehicles were not explained, but only said that the pursuit of the best electrical energy utilization efficiency is the main goal of the brand's electric vehicle development, and in the first mass production of pure electric SUV bZ4X models, the target will be the best power consumption of 125 wh/km (converted into about 8 km/kwh) of the current class of vehicles.
