I want to send my child to kindergarten, how to integrate?

Recently, the news that many kindergartens have taken a holiday early due to the epidemic has made the hearts of many parents of children with autism begin to stir again. When the child reaches the age of kindergarten, whether he should go or not, how to go, as a parent, there are many concerns in his heart:

Will teachers accept children with autism? Will the child change the environment and not adapt? What should I do if I am isolated or bullied in the park? Will the previous intervention skills deteriorate...

In the face of the most concerned issues of these parents, we have summarized some parental experiences that have successfully integrated children, hoping to give some encouragement and suggestions to parents who are about to enter the kindergarten and are preparing to enter the kindergarten, and help children with autism better integrate.

"Before entering the kindergarten, we should understand integrated education"

Fusion education is a specially designed environment and teaching methods to adapt to the learning of children with different characteristics, so we can see that the classroom of the fusion class is different from the general classroom, not sitting in a row against the blackboard, looking at the teacher, but in small groups, rarely writing blackboard but many auxiliary teaching aids.

The integration class sets different learning goals for each child according to the different characteristics of the child, and achieves the fully inclusive strategy and purpose of cooperative learning, cooperative group and peer communication, and the ultimate goal is to include the autistic child in the educational environment and social life.

"Pay attention to these misconceptions about inclusive education"

A considerable number of parents believe that as long as anarcisistic children enter a normal kindergarten, they will naturally imitate the behavior of normal children, thereby improving their social skills and becoming no longer lonely. Therefore, children are often sent to normal kindergartens when they think they are well prepared, regardless of their children's acceptance and adaptation.

It only makes sense to think, "My child is going to kindergarten like every other child," and not think about how the child should go to kindergarten. In fact, this situation can only be called formal integration, and there is not much practical effect.

Q:

If your child is diagnosed with autism, can he still go to kindergarten?

First of all, it is his right for children to receive education, which is beyond doubt. So no matter what type of disorder a child is diagnosed with, they should go to school.

After the child was diagnosed with autism, the current domestic service system includes different types of kindergartens. For example, the most common ordinary kindergartens; or the integration of ordinary children and special children together; there are special kindergartens set up according to the class type of kindergartens for special children; the specific choice of that type of kindergarten should be based on the child's own situation.

Q:

How to choose the right kindergarten?

Do a good job of preparation before entering kindergarten, don't be too hasty. For example, understand the school philosophy of the kindergarten, the humanistic environment, the understanding and acceptance of the director and teachers for autistic children, the degree of development of the kindergarten in individualized education, etc.

When we understand, we recommend the child to enter the kindergarten that suits his characteristics according to the specific situation.

If the child's ability to assess is very poor, parents should not be too anxious, you can find a rehabilitation center for training, it will effectively improve the child's ability, for the child to lay the foundation to go to kindergarten.

Q:

Will the skills of children who go to kindergarten regress?

In order not to let the child regress, you can communicate with the kindergarten leaders and teachers to truthfully reflect the real situation of the child, so that the relevant teachers can prepare for the work.

According to the child's ability and needs, a combination of general education and special education is adopted, such as going to a normal kindergarten half a day and a rehabilitation institution half a day; attending kindergarten a few days a week, and the rest of the time in a rehabilitation institution; and going to a normal kindergarten every day and carrying out one-on-one remedial teaching in a partial time system.

At the same time, relevant training can be carried out. Communicate regularly with special education specialists and teachers in rehabilitation institutions to learn new knowledge concepts and avoid children's skills from deteriorating.

The integrated education of a child with autism requires teachers and parents to make specific analysis of different situations and formulate an integrated education plan and content that truly meets the needs of the child.
