On April 26, GAC Trumpchi released a new hybrid technology brand under the electrification strategy, Julang Hybrid. It is reported that Julang Hybrid has a dual hybrid technology route, which is GAC's forward self-developed GMC dual motor series parallel hybrid system, and the digestion and absorption of Toyota's latest THS hybrid system.

GAC Trumpchi revealed that the GMC hybrid system adopts a series-parallel approach, covering oil-electric hybrid, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen power system; the THS hybrid system is composed of GAC 2.0TM engine + Toyota's fourth-generation THS hybrid system, which has been applied on the new Trumpchi GS8.

It is understood that the first SUV model equipped with the GMC hybrid system is the new model EMKOO Shadow Cool. The product will be available within the year, enter overseas markets in 2023, and be listed in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

For GAC Trumpchi, hybridization is one of the core routes of its future development, and it is also the key to achieving its dual-carbon target. GAC Trumpchi plans to achieve hybridization of all models in 2025 and 60% of hybrid sales in 2030, challenging to achieve carbon neutrality in 2045. In order to achieve this goal, GAC will build Trumpchi's differentiated advantages with hybrid technology, and reduce fossil energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions through "hybrid + intelligent" products.

Take the new Trumpchi GS8 as an example, its April hybrid model orders accounted for 60%. "Based on the current market response to the hybrid version of the (second generation GS8), we will continue to strengthen the proportion of hybrid versions." Zhang Yuesai, general manager of GAC Passenger Vehicle Co., Ltd., previously said when the second-generation GS8 plant rolled off the production line.

Changjiang Securities said in its research report that in the price range of 100,000 to 200,000 yuan, subject to cost, the competitiveness of pure electric vehicles in mileage and configuration is not as strong as that of the two-end market (the price is less than 50,000 yuan and the price is higher than 200,000 yuan), while the 100,000 to 200,000 yuan market as an economic market consumer is the most "picky", and has higher requirements for endurance, performance, configuration, etc. In contrast, the cost increase of hybrid models is relatively small, and the current pricing can be basically equal to that of fuel vehicles, becoming an important supplement to new energy vehicles.

At the same time, since the beginning of this year, due to factors such as rising oil prices, hybrid models with low fuel consumption have become a popular choice in the market. According to the data of the Federation of Automobile Manufacturers, in March this year, the wholesale penetration rate of domestic new energy vehicle manufacturers reached 25.1%, an increase of 14 percentage points over the same period last year. At the same time, domestic plug-in hybrid models sold 84,000 units in the same month, an increase of 151.3% year-on-year; sales of ordinary gasoline-electric hybrid models reached 75,000 units, an increase of 62% year-on-year.

Changjiang Securities predicts that by 2025, the annual sales of domestic hybrid models will exceed 6.35 million, and the market space is huge.
