Kanji Fun Talk: 祼

"祼" (guan4), which is a ideographic word. The configuration of the oracle bone "祼" character is very similar to the configuration of the oracle bone "Fu" character, the first is composed of "show" + "unitary", and the second is to hold a "wine" in both hands, both of which are sacrificed with "wine".

After the Zhou Dynasty destroyed the Shang, in order to consolidate its ruling power, it strengthened the spiritual control of the royal family and the people in the form of sacrifices, and formulated many institutional provisions (including sacrifices), and the "祼" ceremony was an important form of sacrifice in the Zhou Dynasty.

"The Left Handbook. Thirteen Years of The Reign of the Duke of Cheng": "The great affairs of the kingdom are in the worship and the rong." "Regard sacrifice and war as a matter of great importance for the rise and fall of nations." The "corpse" ceremony is to sacrifice the "corpse" with wine specially used for sacrifice (the "corpse" here is not a corpse, it is a person with a certain status or status, dressed as a deceased ancestor, to enjoy the sacrifice on behalf of the ancestor), and the "corpse" will be "sprinkled" (sprinkled) on the ground to worship the ancestors and gods, which is the ritual of pouring the incense wine without drinking. This custom has been passed down for thousands of years and is still used by people today. For example, the sweet wine is poured on the ground when paying homage to the ancestors and martyrs, and the fishermen worship the sea god before going out to sea to fish, and the wine is poured on the beach, which is a continuation of this custom.

Jin Wen continued the oracle glyph, and the glyphs of the late zhou dynasty added a symbol indicating "corpse". The small seal is "from the sound of fruit". The Lishu continues the small seal glyph, and the letter is written as "祼".

The original meaning of "祼" is to offer sacrifices with wine poured into the ground. The Shuowen Jiezi explains: "祼, the irrigation sacrifice also." (The vernacular version says: "Pour wine into the ground to please the gods.") )

Shang Shu. Luo Xuan: "The king entered the Tai Mu Chamber." (The king went to the Temple of Taimiao to perform the ritual.) )

"祼" also refers to pouring wine and toasting guests. In ancient times, kings performed rituals to the princes who came to court. Zhou Li. Chun Guan. Dian Rui: "Yu Gui has a Jong, to be the king, to serve the guests." (Sacrifices were made to the kings with spoons, and rituals were always performed.) )
