Countdown to a set of twenty-four solar terms

And now in Suzhou
A set of Su embroidered editions of twenty-four solar terms
Through the hands of the embroidered lady Chen Hongying
It reproduces the beauty of Chinese culture
Walking into the Chen Hongying Embroidery Art Museum, Su embroidery artist Chen Hongying is busy embroidering the "Xia" character in the twenty-four solar terms. Rich layers of color and hidden phenological information vividly show the scene of the solar terms.
"Lixia is the first of the twenty-four solar terms, and the temperature rises a little, so the words draw electric fans. Summer is also the season for crops to grow, so there are patterns such as wheat fields and frogs. Chen Hongying introduced.
The Su embroidery edition of the 24 solar terms series of works was planned and cooperated by Dr. Qi Deli of the Institute of Geographical Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chen Hongying, a Su embroidery artist. Qidley has lived in Suzhou for many years and guided the R&D team to publish a series of original picture books on geography and science, such as "This is the Twenty-Four Solar Terms" and "Lovely China".
By chance, Chen Hongying saw Dr. Qi's original picture book of the twenty-four solar terms, and she had the idea of using Su embroidery to create and express it.
"The twenty-four solar terms have been passed down for thousands of years, and it is the ancients' understanding of all things in heaven and earth, and in this process, we thought of using Chinese characters to express themselves, and we wanted to use Chinese characters to portray people's understanding of the phenology of the solar terms and the summary of their experience." Dr. Zidley said.
"When embroidering, I deeply understand that it is not only culture, but also contains a lot of connotations of natural environment, crops and plants that grow naturally, so I like it very much." Chen Hongying said.
The creation of the Su embroidery version of the 24 solar terms began in this year's Lichun, and the completion of each solar term work took about 20 days, and now nearly 20 Su embroidery works have been completed. Twenty-four creative Chinese characters with very intuitive images, such as "spring, rain, thunder, birds, wind, flowers, summer, wheat, rice..." skillfully interpret the twenty-four solar terms and seventy-two characteristics of the year, and use the expression techniques of Su embroidery to let people perceive the beauty of nature, feel the depth of culture, and feel the essence of art.
"For example, the mango seed, which has rich content, shows the scene of the lush growth of crops, and the silkworm baby, each type reflects the scene of everything growing at that time." Chen Hongying introduced.
Chen Hongying said that in the process of embroidery, a work sometimes uses more than thirty sets of colors, and a set of colors has more than a dozen. In order to show the rich scenes in the solar terms, it is even more necessary to grasp every detail of the creation from the overall sense of the work.
"During the embroidery period, we master the color and technique according to experience, because every word is a painting, which is richer in imagination, more flexible in change, more brainy, all have ideas, and be creative than when embroidering works before."
In a few more periods, the Su embroidered version of the twenty-four solar terms series will be completed. In the future, this set of Su embroidery works will meet the public through various exhibition activities.
Chen Hongying hopes that through this embroidery of the twenty-four solar terms of culture, Su embroidery can be better integrated into the lives of the people, so that more people can understand the twenty-four solar terms and intangible handicraft culture.
"Just like this year's Winter Olympics, a film and television work that counts down to the twenty-four solar terms has made billions of people around the world understand the breadth and depth of China's twenty-four solar terms." I hope that the next use of Chinese characters, coupled with our embroidery, coupled with the cultural inheritance of the twenty-four solar terms for thousands of years, can be displayed to a farther away exhibition, so that the world can better understand the essence of China's profound culture. Dr. Qidli of the Institute of Geographical Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said.
