Kanji Fun Talk: 帀

"帀" (za1), which is a synaesthetic word. "帀" is the original word for "匝". The oracle bone "帀" character, the upper part is a horizontal, the lower part is an inverted "stop", meaning from there to this side. The extension refers to a distance, in order to make this extended meaning more pictographic, in the "帀" on the outside of the "匚" as a side, there is no sealing, indicating that most of the circle has been walked.

The late Zhou Dynasty Jinwen "帀" character inherits the glyph of the oracle bone, and the "帀" character in the Spring and Autumn Period adds a short horizontal to the glyph of the late Zhou Dynasty, emphasizing the meaning of starting from there (the ancients had the habit of increasing and subtracting pens when writing, which may also belong to the increase).

The first "帀" character in the Warring States period was added to a vertical bend in the Spring and Autumn period glyphs, indicating that a distance had been traveled from the place of departure to here. Another glyph in the Warring States period was to remove the upper part of the first character from the upper part of the horizontal, the lower part of the vertical bend into two bends, and the short horizontal into a block surface. The small seal and the Lishu continue the oracle bone glyph, and the italic writing is "帀".

The original meaning of "帀" is week, circle. Circling around is called a "帀". The Shuowen Jiezi explains: "帀, Zhou Ye, from the opposite to 帀也." (The glyph is the word "zigzag" reversed, saying it is a week, but it is actually only half a circle.) )

"帀" is used as a quantifier to denote weeks. Cao Cao's "Short Song Line": "The moon star is rare, and the black magpie flies south." Around the tree three, what branches can be relied on? "

"帀" extends to refer to the surrounding. Du Fu's poem "Accompanying Zheng Guangwen to Visit General He's Mountain Forest" reads: "Exotic flowers bloom in the wilderness, nourishing the vines and clearing the pond." "

"帀" also refers to all over, full. Liu Zongyuan's "Memoirs of the West Hills of the Euphorbia Pond": "The second one who does not have to be humbled and has a different place." "
