Introduction: It has been 18 months since the update of the fuel version of BYD's last fuel car, Song PLUS, and now, BYD has finally officially announced the suspension of fuel vehicles, becoming the first car company in the world to officially announce the suspension of fuel vehicles.
(Text/Zhang Jiadong Editor/Lou Bing) Since leading the market with a year-on-year increase of 336.2% in February this year, BYD passenger cars once again handed over 104338 units, an increase of 160.9% year-on-year sales.
This is not only a milestone for BYD's first monthly sales of passenger cars to exceed 100,000 units, but also a turning point in BYD's complete bid farewell to the history of fuel vehicles.
On April 3, BYD announced that according to the company's strategic development needs, it will stop the production of fuel vehicles from March 2022 and focus on EV pure electric and DM plug-in hybrid vehicles. For BYD, the phrase "leader of new energy vehicles" after the brand logo has finally been fulfilled with practice.

Although under the strong pressure of the overseas fuel vehicle suspension policy, luxury brands such as Volvo and Lincoln have announced a clear deadline and will respond with a full electrification transformation. However, facing the market, the pure electric transformation road of traditional car companies, BYD undoubtedly chose the right track earlier.
According to the data, in March 2021, with the comprehensive mass production of DM-i hybrid technology, BYD's new energy vehicle sales accounted for the first time to surpass fuel vehicle products, reaching 59.3%. For the whole of last year, BYD's cumulative sales of passenger cars were 730,000 units, an increase of 75.4% year-on-year, of which the sales of new energy products were 593,000 units, an increase of 231.6% year-on-year, and the proportion of new energy products reached 81.2%, while a year ago, this figure was only 44.4%.
In the middle of 2021, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu once said: "It is a good thing that so many players enter the new energy industry, and they will slowly replace the oil trucks, but the competition behind will be extremely fierce, and some car companies will be eliminated." Wang Chuanfu's sense of distress made BYD choose electrification transformation earlier.
From January to February this year, BYD only had 3 fuel vehicles left on sale, with a cumulative sales volume of 5,049 vehicles, compared with 180,000 new energy products, BYD's fuel vehicles have long been a layer of unbroken window paper.
The rapid rise in new energy sales is inseparable from the application and promotion of BYD's DM-i and e-platform 3.0 technologies in 2021. From the perspective of product sales, the sales of BYD EV pure electric and DM hybrid series models have always kept in tandem. In March, BYD's DM plug-in sales increased by 615.2% year-on-year to 50,674 units, while EV models sold 53,664 units, up 229.2% year-on-year.
Specific to the model, Dynasty products have fully realized the replacement of fuel products by electrification, and continue to assume the cornerstone of BYD's in-depth exploration in the market. In March, BYD Han sold a total of 12,359 vehicles, and with the further refinement of the Han DM-p and Han DM-i models on March 19, the flagship sedan of the Dynasty series is also expected to break through again on the basis of 10,000 monthly sales.
In addition, bydir Qin family sales in March totaled 24,797 vehicles, The Song family sold a total of 26,729 vehicles, and the Qin song family's DM-i products also firmly occupy the benchmark position corresponding to the new energy market segment.
At the same time, with the blessing of e-platform 3.0, the new Dynasty and Ocean models also have outstanding sales performance, in March, BYD Dolphin sold a total of 10,501 vehicles, BYD Yuan sold a total of 12,881 vehicles. Similar to products such as Euler Good Cat, under the comprehensive blessing of independent brand design and electrification technology, "boutique pure electricity" is becoming a new synonym for entry-level A0 and A-class models.
Take a look:
In the 2021 financial report just released by BYD, BYD said for the automotive business that "the Group will actively grasp the historic development opportunities of the new energy automobile industry", "focus on market safety pain points", "actively explore intelligence" and "increase production capacity expansion". Undoubtedly, BYD is extremely resolute in the choice of new energy vehicle roads.
In the context of BYD's official announcement of the suspension of fuel vehicles, BYD's annual sales target of 2 million vehicles will be completed by pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid models, although this task seems to be particularly arduous, but for BYD, which holds the core technology of electrification, the choice of the market and consumers has opened the door for it.
As BYD mentioned countless times in the press release: "With more than 27 years of battery research and development experience, it is the only company in the world that has mastered the core technology of electric vehicles such as batteries, motors, and electronic controls, and provides one-stop new energy overall solutions." "The maturity of the electrification technology has enabled BYD to have sufficient endorsement to develop upwards."
What BYD needs to do is more reflected in how to make up for production capacity as soon as possible to achieve growing demand for orders, and quickly improve the brand image and service system, so as to truly move from the "leader" of new energy vehicles to the "leader".
At the level of intelligence in the industry trend, BYD has strategically invested in lidar company Sagitar Juchuang, and officially announced that it will use NVIDIA chips as its automatic driving solution to provide support.
In terms of product layout, BYD has built a trident posture of ocean network, dynasty network and Denza, with the improvement of BYD Han DM series products, at present, BYD dynasty products have completed all DM-i and e platform 3.0 dual power replacement, and the models on sale cover a total of 22 dynasty products and 2 marine products.
In the future promotion plan, BYD plans to launch three models of seals, seagulls and sea lions for the ocean series, and the destroyer 07, cruise ship 05, cruise ship 07 and landing ship 07 of the subdivided warship series are also in preparation, and the first MPV product after the Denza brand belongs to BYD is already in the testing stage; in the second half of this year, BYD will also release another high-end brand to further improve the product matrix and market coverage.
According to the plan, in the future, BYD Automobile will fully cover mini cars, small cars, compact cars, medium-sized cars, SUVs and pickup truck-level products. Now, the first quarter has passed, BYD's new plan is also moving forward, taking this opportunity to "break away" the fuel vehicle with poor sales, which is not only in line with BYD's pursuit of electrification and brand tonality, but will provide more energy and space for BYD to focus on the hybrid and pure electric markets.
