J.D. Power recruited tens of thousands of 2019 model car owners for 3 years, and was surveyed by first-hand buyers and ranked according to the "failures per 100 vehicles". The survey covers 9 major systems, including power, infotainment, driver assistance technology, control display functions, air conditioning, seating, exterior status, interior status, and driving experience, totaling up to 184 details.
In the 2022 VDS vehicle reliability survey, the top 5 affordable brands are Kia, Buick, Hyundai, Toyota and Dodge, and South Korea and the United States car factories each account for two places, and only Toyota continues to stay on the list of Japanese car manufacturers with relatively stable VDS performance in the past. Among them, the top three Kia, Buick and Hyundai have 145, 147 and 148 failures per hundred vehicles, and the gap between them is not large.
In luxury brands, Genesis led with 155 faults, followed by Lexus, Porsche, Cadillac and Lincoln, with 159, 162, 168 and 180 per 100 vehicles compared to affordable brands. If you look at the single car series, the 2019 Porsche 911 is the first overall ranking.
J.D. Power said that the number of infotainment system failures is more than twice as many as the others, and 7 of the top 10 most common failures are related to infotainment systems. Among them, the most prone to the situation is the "built-in voice recognition function", "Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connection" and "built-in Bluetooth system", "touch screen" and "navigation system" are relatively stable.
Affordable brands are indeed more reliable, which may make people question whether the level of luxury brand car manufacturing is in line with the price. However, J.D. Power said that this is a luxury car usually equipped with more functions and equipment, and the affordable car is relatively simple, which also makes the failure rate can be reduced.
