North American tire satisfaction survey, the more expensive it is really better?

U.S. research agency J.D. Power has released the 2022 U.S. Automotive Oem Tire Consumer Satisfaction Survey (U.S. Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study)。 The results found that even with the overall satisfaction with the vehicle's original tires, consumers tend to ignore the professional tire replacement recommendations made by the salesperson – even though these tires can better perform the performance of the vehicle.

In the brand segment, in the luxury, general and van/utility vehicle categories, the 3 brands such as Michelin, Pirelli and BFGoodrich respectively received the highest satisfaction at each level.

The 2022 U.S. Automotive Oem Tire Consumer Satisfaction Survey is a feedback review of 29,661 owners of new U.S. models 2020 and 2021 between August and December 2021. Projects are based on importance: ride comfort, tire wear, handling and tire appearance. This year, in addition to the 3 levels mentioned in the previous paragraph, another survey was conducted for performance cars/sports cars, but it was not included in the brand award due to insufficient sample size.

Brent Gruber, senior director of global automotive at J.D. Power, said: "High satisfaction usually generates loyalty, but we see that many car owners focus on a narrow range when changing tires, such as focusing only on appearance or price. Tires are fairly highly engineered components of a vehicle and are designed to very precise specifications. It affects the performance of the vehicle. When consumers change their tyres, they risk missing out on key product features and benefits if they don't follow the advice of experts."

According to the study, 36% of the respondents said that brand experience is an important criterion for purchasing new tires, while only 17% of car owners purchased through the recommendation of experienced sales and service personnel.

Gruber added: "It's quite worrying that very few owners seek advice from tire sales and service staff, but often rely on their own experience. If you do not understand how the original tire improves the performance of the vehicle, the owner will suffer losses because he does not use the expert advice, resulting in the performance of the vehicle not being played. The advantage of a tire expert is that it helps owners understand the properties of their tires more clearly when buying new tires."
