A few days ago, Ford's first electric pickup truck F-150 Lightning officially rolled off the production line at the Electric Vehicle Center in the Rouge pickup truck factory, and the new car is currently the only electric model certified by the Built Ford Tough standard, with high reliability and safety. The F-150 Lightning has received more than 200,000 orders since its release, far exceeding Ford's planned production capacity and making it one of the most popular electric pickups. Benefiting from the high demand for electric pickup products, Ford plans to produce and sell 600,000 electric vehicles worldwide by the end of 2023 and increase this number to more than 2 million by 2026.
The F-150 Lightning is built on Ford's new electric modular platform, and the body is made of military-grade aluminum alloy. The front grille part adopts the usual closed style of electric vehicles, which is a black diamond cut style, and the front face light group and the tail light group are all through-type LED light strips, and the left and right sides of the light strip are slightly uplifted, and the lines on both sides of the engine compartment cover are integrated, and the visual effect is somewhat similar to the old F-150. As an electric vehicle, the F-150 Lightning has a front load compartment design, the front load compartment storage space can reach 400L, and there are power interfaces in the front load compartment and the cargo box, which is in line with the design concept of the current F-150 for practicality.
Inside the vehicle, F-150 Lightning basically follows the design of the current F-150 fuel version, equipped with the same 15.5-inch large vertical central control screen of the Mustang Mach-E, integrated Sync 4A infotainment system, with advanced automatic driving assistance system, and also equipped with an embedded FordPass application, so that the owner can achieve vehicle start, route planning, vehicle information acquisition, remote charging and other functions through the mobile app. The F-150 Lightning also has a modem that provides owners with an in-car WIFI module that enables remote updates of the vehicle's engine system to keep the infotainment system and vehicle control management system up-to-date.
F-150 Lightning has a professional on-board power management system, which can output a stable current of 7.2-9.6kW to help car owners complete various tasks. The new car's charging system also supports reverse power transmission, when the F-150 Lightning is plugged into the home power supply, if the house loses power, the car can power the house and appliances to cope with the impact of extreme weather, power supply time can reach three days, but also the function requires the user to be equipped with an AC inverter and a special home charger for Ford pickup trucks.
In terms of power, the F-150 Lightning has two kinds of battery capacity and two driving modes of single motor and dual motor, with a maximum power of 563 horsepower (420 kW), a peak torque of 1051 N·m, and a maximum cruising range of 480 km. The F-150 Lightning also features four-wheel drive for the entire series, with independent rear suspension for overall performance, and the dual-motor version accelerates in just 4.3 seconds from 100 km/h. In terms of trailer and bearing capacity, the F-150 Lightning single motor version has a maximum payload of 907 kg, a maximum drag mass of 2267 kg, a double motor version with a maximum payload of 829 kg, and a maximum drag mass of 4535 kg.
At the same time as the F-150 Lightning was officially put into production, Ford CEO Jim Farley also revealed that after the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach E and the electric version of the Transit, Ford is considering developing another electric pickup product, and the new car will be produced at the Stanton, Tennessee plant, planned for 2025.
