Tencent Automobile on July 17, it is reported that the increase in electric vehicle inventory is a new round of great challenges for Ford dealers. A Ford dealer from the East Coast of the United States said that it is the widening gap between supply and demand that has led to more and more Ford electric vehicles being unsold.

The dealer meanwhile told the media: "According to Ford's bet, Ford may have a real problem. They say that the inventory of Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Electric Horse has never piled up as badly in the past as it does now. Of course, this dealership is not the only one to reduce Ford's share of electric vehicle allocation; some other Ford dealers are also rejecting the allocation of Ford Electric Horses.

Another dealer said Ford's longer lead times could affect sales, and because many orders can't translate into delivery, some F-150 Lightning buyers who are on the sidelines may order a different model of EV or buy an existing model first.

It was recently reported that Ford's supply of electric trucks is sufficient to meet supply demand for up to 56 days, including vehicles in transit. In addition, the brand has also opened discount channels, such as consumers in some cities in the United States if they buy F-150 Lightning now, in addition to the tax incentives given by the federal and state governments, they can save nearly 2,500 US dollars (about 18,000 yuan).

As can be seen from the sales data, the trajectory of Ford's electric vehicles is not stable and mixed - nearly 23,000 pure electric vehicles were sold in the first half of 2023, an increase of 12% over the same period in 2022. Sales of the F-150 Lightning increased by 281%, but sales of Ford Electric Horse and E-Transit (the domestic counterpart of the All-Shun pure electric van) fell by 21% and 3%, respectively.

In terms of turnover (the percentage of EVs sold in existing inventory), Ford dealers cleared 86.4% of Ford's electric horse inventory in the first 30 days of the second quarter of 2022, but according to cloud theory data shared by Insider, this figure dropped to 27.7% at the end of the second quarter of 2022.

Brands have now invested billions of dollars to boost electric vehicle production in North America. For example, the production of electric trucks at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan is expected to triple this year, and the Kansas City assembly plant will also expand production of the E-transit, the best-selling electric van in the United States in 2022.

Ford Electric Horse has started production at its Cuautitlan plant in Mexico and its Changan Ford plant in Chongqing, and is expected to achieve an annual global production of 210,000 units by the end of 2023.

So the question is, what do you do with today's ballooning inventory? With such a wide range of electric vehicles to choose from, will users give priority to Ford?
