#Folk Tales#The Legend of Huilong Temple in Baolin Town, Lezhi County (Folk Tales)

At the foot of the slope at the junction of Xingxing Village and Zhoujiagou Village in Baolin Town, Lezhi County, there is a Huilong Temple, and the origin of its name is said to be twofold. First, the mountains on both sides of the Huilong Temple are shaped like dragons, endlessly, swimming back and forth like dragons, so they are called Huilong. Another way of saying it is somewhat mysterious.

According to legend, outside the main hall of Huilong Temple, there are two large pillars, each carved with a dragon around the pillar head. Once upon a time, when Huilong Temple was not called Huilong Temple, the abbot took pity on the disciples outside the temple, vacated a Zen room, and opened a private school for the children of the poor.

Mr. Private School is a white-haired old man, very learned, he spares no effort to impart all his knowledge to the reading cowherds, year after year, there are many shows in the cattle dolls, and the old man is very respected on this side. These two dragons carved on the pillars, because they have been listening to the teacher's lectures for many years, and listening to the chanting of the senior monks of the Huilong Temple, they also have spirituality, and they are very envious of the children's lives. One summer, two reading cowherds took advantage of the noon gap to bathe in the small river outside the temple, and the two dragons also transformed into human forms and played happily in the river.

One day, the teacher found that there was silk grass hanging on the dragon horn on the dragon pillar, he suspected that there were students bathing in the river, so he strictly guarded the students, and at noon the teacher locked the students in the classroom for lunch break and personally guarded them, but for several days, there was still wet silk grass on the dragon head, and the old man realized that the dragon on the dragon pillar had spirituality and turned into a human form to bathe in the river. The teacher was touched by the act of honoring the Buddha when the dragon went and returned, so he suggested to the abbot that the name of the temple be changed to Huilong Temple.

The two dragons were very happy and decided not to bathe in the river anymore, and stood motionless on the stone pillars to protect the temple. from now on. The name of Huilong Temple will be passed down forever.
