#Shintaro Ishihara died at the age of 89.

Japan's right-wing politician and former Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara passed away today, according to Japan's NHK television.

Shintaro Ishihara was the initiator of the Dispute over the Diaoyu Islands between China and Japan, and in the 1970s, Shintaro Ishihara, together with other right-wing forces, formed the right-wing political group "Qinglan Association" and funded the construction of lighthouses on the Diaoyu Islands by Japanese right-wing youth. In the spring of 2012, Ishihara threw out Tokyo's plan to buy the Diaoyu Dao and its affiliated islands and raised donations, after which the Japanese government decided to "nationalize" them, resulting in a deterioration in Sino-Japanese relations.
