ESG indicators came into being, and many companies began to pay attention to ESG construction and management, especially technology companies.

Some of them use AI algorithms to find lost children, some combine their own platform advantages to help farmers, get rid of poverty, fight against the epidemic, some develop green finance, and some build green supply chains. Invariably, these companies are actively engaged in the construction of ESG in combination with the advantages of their own business or platform.

Based on this, Leifeng network sorted out and talked with some Chinese technology companies that are at the forefront of ESG, trying to outline their positive actions under the ESG blueprint.

Baidu: Using AI to find lost children,

Combat wildlife trafficking

In 2016, Baidu launched the "AI Search Project".

In the project, Baidu accessed authoritative data from platforms such as the Ministry of Civil Affairs, Baby Homecoming, and the Anti-Cult Network to help lost people, family seekers, public welfare organizations, and volunteers find their relatives.

In the search for relatives, AI shows great ability.

Many children have gone missing at an early age, and decades later, their faces have changed dramatically. However, AI can identify two photos of faces traveling through time and space through the comparison of key features, and determine that they belong to the same person.

Take the "Liu Hongjiang Incident" as an example: in 1999, Liu Hongjiang, who was only 4 years old, was abducted in his hometown of Guiyang, and his parents searched for their children for many years without finding anything. In 2012, his parents uploaded a 4-year-old photo of Liu Hongjiang to the baby home database; in 2019, Wu Junfa, a 24-year-old young man from Fujian, also uploaded his own photo to this database in order to find a home. Baidu's AI search platform shows that the similarity of the two photos is extremely high. In the end, Wu Junfa found that he was the "Liu Hongjiang" that his biological parents had been looking for.

Baidu official data shows that more than 330,000 baby volunteers go home every day, using this platform to assist in family searching. Up to now, the "Baidu AI Search" platform photo comparison has been launched more than 400,000 times, and more than 10,000 successful cases of family matching have been carried out.

In addition, on World Earth Day on April 22, 2020, Baidu also cooperated with IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) to release the "Endangered Species AI Guardian Officer" platform based on AI image recognition technology.

On this platform, AI can identify elephant, tiger, and pangolin species. The recognition accuracy rate has reached about 75%.

According to the data, the "Endangered Species AI Guardian Officer" has so far assisted in screening nearly 250,000 picture information, accurately identified 3518 pictures of target wildlife products, and traced back to 831 illegal trade advertisements.

It can be seen that the addition of AI has improved the operational efficiency of public welfare charities, reduced the management costs of the entire charity industry, and also enhanced the public's trust in the charity industry.

Tencent: hard containment soft care,

Lenovo: research and development of green materials,

At present, the low-temperature solder paste has achieved large-scale application in the PC field, which can save up to 35% of carbon emissions and achieve annual carbon emission savings of 1087 tons.

At the same time, Lenovo's Advanced Production Scheduling System (LAPS) saves more than 2,696 MWh of electricity per year by improving production efficiency and reducing idle production lines, which can reduce more than 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to planting 110,000 trees per year.

According to Lenovo's latest ESG report, 91% of Lenovo's suppliers have set public emission reduction targets; 83% of suppliers have conducted third-party verification of emission reduction data; 72% of suppliers have set renewable energy targets, and 82% of suppliers track and report renewable energy production and purchases.

In addition, Lenovo has led suppliers to join the Science Carbon Target Initiative (SBTi) and make commitments. In the 2020/21 financial year, suppliers accounting for 24% of purchases have committed to joining SBTi or setting scientific carbon targets.

Xiaomi: identifying the consumption area,

At the same time, Xiaomi is equipped with two sets of solar water heating systems in the park, including 124 groups of solar collectors, with a daily heat absorption of 17.2 MJ / square meter, each system provides an average daily hot water of 11.6 tons and 6.8 tons in summer and winter, respectively, with a total of 3608 tons of domestic water throughout the year.

In addition, Xiaomi saves the use of water resources by posting water-saving signs, spraying green irrigation, and increasing the utilization rate of reclaimed water.

In 2020, all buildings and decoration projects in Xiaomi Science and Technology Park passed the two-star level certification of the "Beijing Green Building Evaluation Standards", with a building design energy saving rate of 65%, reusable recyclable materials accounting for 10%, and green space design accounting for 20%. In terms of water resources in the park, a total of 20.8% of the park's domestic hot water used solar energy system for heating during the year, and 35.2% of the water used was non-traditional water sources.

In view of the resource consumption of Xiaomi Home, Xiaomi canceled paper labels and implemented electronic labels. Shopping bags have also been changed from plastic bags to eco-friendly bags. At the same time, in response to Beijing's energy-saving and emission-reduction promotion policies, Xiaomi Home includes a series of products such as TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, and air purifiers, and a total of 30,572 orders throughout the year have received government energy-saving subsidies.

In view of the data center resource consumption, Xiaomi adopts water-cooled air conditioning refrigeration, with a natural cooling system, adopts water-side natural cooling technology in winter, and adopts partial natural cooling in spring and autumn. At the same time, Xiaomi interviewed the supply system equipment of uninterrupted power, so that the efficiency of the whole machine reached 96%, and the energy-saving mode reached 99%. Xiaomi is gradually replacing physical servers with cloud servers.

OPPO began to conduct greenhouse gas inventory work in 2018, and established internal and external inventory mechanisms to establish a response data collection procedure. The company conducts the results of the greenhouse gas review once a year and formulates the "Internal Audit Measures for Greenhouse Gas Inventory".

The company tracks and records energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions such as water and electricity in the workplace. The company seeks cost-effective ways to improve energy efficiency and minimize energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, Huawei's Tech4Nature project, which cooperates with the IUCN, and the Hainan National Park Research Institute, officially released the Hainan Gibbon Acoustic Research Project on November 29, 2020.

The project can more effectively capture the activity information of Hainan gibbons through acoustic monitoring, and comprehensively use new technologies such as automatic collection, wireless transmission and network storage to process the monitored acoustic data, which will provide a scientific basis for the discovery of potential Hainan gibbons individuals or groups.
