In the past 2021, the results of the auto crash test continue to touch the hearts of many car owners.
From the beginning of the Volkswagen Passat's "overturning" in the crash test results of the China Insurance Research Institute in 2019, consumers' attention to the safety level of the car when it collides has been unprecedentedly high, and it has also broken the inherent cognition of consumers for the safety of some models - on the one hand, some people think that the "crash-resistant" models have not achieved satisfactory results in the crash tests of China Insurance Research Institute, China Automobile Research Institute and other institutions; on the other hand, some models that people think are "crispy" have performed well in the crash test.
Therefore, for the understanding of car safety, we need to return to the crash test results of professional institutions and re-examine the safety of each model. To this end, Consumer Report has collated and analyzed the automotive crash test data of China Insurance Research Institute and China Automobile Research Institute in 2021, and strives to bring consumers more comprehensive and objective analysis of automobile safety data.

Zhongbao Research Institute
SAIC Volkswagen salted fish turned over, Changan UNI-K is not enough to withstand collisions
In 2021, under the 2020 version of the C-IASI evaluation regulations, Zhongbao Research Institute only tested 5 models, namely Ford Ruiji, Mazda CX-30, Volkswagen ID.4X, Changan UIN-K and Acura RDX.
From the overall score, only all test items of saic-volkswagen ID.4X received G (excellent) evaluation. In 2019, SAIC Volkswagen Passat only achieved p (poor) results in the frontal 25% bias collision project of China Insurance Research Institute. In 2020, the Passat model once again participated in the crash test of The China Insurance Research Institute, and the 25% positive bias collision score was G (excellent). In 2021, the SAIC Volkswagen ID.4X received a full G (excellent) evaluation, which can be described as a salted fish turnover.

In terms of crashworthiness and maintenance economic index, the Ford Edge, Mazda CX-30 and Acura RDX all received only M (general) ratings. Among them, the mazda CX-30's maintainability score is P (poor), indicating that some of the original accessories and structures may be difficult to restore as they are after the collision; the collision compatibility score of acura RDX is P (poor), indicating that the model's ability to reduce losses on both sides in the collision accident is poor.

As the only autonomous model tested, Changan UNI-K was rated A (good) on the crash resistance and maintenance economy index, of which the structural crash resistance rating was A (good), but the maintenance and crash compatibility were only given M (general), indicating that Changan UNI-K still has a lot of room for improvement in terms of crash resistance, maintenance and recovery, and reducing crash losses.

At present, many cars on the market are equipped with automatic braking system (AEB) function. In the 2021 ZhongbaoYan auxiliary safety test, only the Acura RDX received an A (good) rating, and the other models received a G (excellent) rating. The reason is that in the test of the pedestrian and bicycle emergency braking system with a full score of 56 points, acura RDX only scored 26 points. As far as test models are concerned, Acura RDX owners may not be able to rely too much on the AEB system as the first choice for emergency braking.
Overall, in the positive 25% bias collision project that consumers are most concerned about, the 5 models tested by China Insurance Research Institute have received G (excellent) evaluations, and "famous scenes" such as A-pillar bending and airbags not being able to catch dummies have not appeared in 2021.
China Automobile Research Institute
Wuling Kaijiecheng's only four-star model, bmw iX3 is the most impact-resistant
In 2021, under the 2018 version of the C-NCAP evaluation regulations, the China Automotive Technology and Research Center conducted crash tests on 25 cars, of which only Wuling Capgemini received a four-star rating, and the rest of the models received five-star or even "five-star +" ratings.
Capgemini, the MPV model of "Light of Domestic Goods" Wuling, unexpectedly "overturned", with a total score of only 82.4 points and a rating of only four stars. In the two test items of "Front 100% Overlapping Rigid Wall Crash Test" and "Front 40% Overlapping Deformable Wall Crash Test", Wuling Capgemini's score ranked third from the bottom among the 25 models.
In last year's test, a number of Japanese cars "overturned". In the two test items of "Front 100% Overlapping Rigid Wall Collision Test" and "Front 40% Overlapping Deformable Wall Collision Test", Honda Fit ranked 21st and 18th respectively.
Another Japanese giant model can be described as "difficult brother". In the "40% Overlapping Deformable Wall Collision Test on the Front", Toyota Asiatic Lion ranked at the bottom, scoring only 13.596 points in this 20-point event, a difference of nearly 6 points from the first-ranked BMW iX3.
For the impression that American cars are "crash-resistant" and "comparable to tanks", C-NCAP gives a different answer. In terms of overall results, Changan Ford Explorer and Buick Veyron Pro ranked fourth to last and second to last respectively. In the "Frontal 100% Overlapping Rigid Wall Collision Test", the Buick Veyron Pro is at the bottom of the score.
The BMW iX3 scored 95.7 points, the highest of all test models, receiving a "five-star +" evaluation, of which active safety received a full score of 15.000 points, and scored 19.546 points and 19.259 points in the "front 100% overlapping rigid wall crash test" and "front 40% overlapping deformable wall crash test" respectively, which can be described as the most impact-resistant model.
In addition, there are also many domestic cars in the better performing models, and four domestic cars have entered the top ten of the total results, namely Sihao QX, BYD Han EV, Trumpchi GS4 and Hongqi H9.
Conclusion: The gender of car safety only depends on whether it is crash-resistant
Through the analysis of the 2021 automotive crash test results of China Insurance Research Institute and China Automobile Research Institute, it can be found that the safety of automotive products is constantly improving. Obviously, this is due to the continuous supervision of the relevant authoritative testing institutions. At present, China Insurance Research Institute and China Automobile Research Institute have begun to implement the latest test and evaluation rules, namely the "China Auto Insurance Safety Index Management Measures (2020 Edition)" and the "C-NCAP Management Rules (2021 Edition)" of China Automobile Research Institute, with more test items and more stringent test evaluation indicators.
In this environment, a number of car companies have improved the quality of vehicle materials and structural safety. Therefore, even if you buy some models with lower prices, consumers can enjoy a safer car experience.
In addition, from the perspective of consumers buying and using cars, the understanding and judgment of safety in the event of car collision cannot only be based on previous stereotypes, or only look at whether the body structure is impact-resistant. In fact, for crash safety indicators, it also includes the protection of seats and headrests, pedestrian protection, auxiliary safety and other aspects of the protection of occupants and pedestrians. A truly safe car needs to provide more comprehensive protection for occupants and pedestrians.
