Guandian Village, Xixian County, Henan Province, is located on the banks of the main river channel and the old road of the Huai River, and a new village was built to avoid flooding and the villagers gradually left the riverbank, and have since lived a new life.
Out of Guandian Village came a founding major general named Li Yuan (formerly known as Guan Junyan). He graduated from the Nanjing Central Military Academy, participated in the Battle of Songhu and the Defense of Nanjing, defected to the Eighth Route Army in Wuhan in 1938, and successively served as the commander of the 385th Brigade, the commander of the 10th Column of Dongye, and the commander of the 140th Division during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. After the founding of New China, he served as deputy chief of staff of the Guangdong Military Region, commander of the 47th Army, director of the Revolutionary Committee of Hunan Province, and deputy commander of the Lanzhou Military Region. He led his troops to participate in the campaigns of the Northeast Bandits, the Black Mountain Blockade Battle, the Pingjin Campaign, the Surprise Attack on Baiyun Mountain, the Xiangxi Bandit Suppression, and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.
The former residence of General Li is located on the embankment of the Huai River's old road. After the villagers moved to the new village, it has become a sorghum field.
Before his death, General Li donated 150,000 yuan to the First Primary School in Xixian County as a scholarship, and the school named a teaching building "General LiYuan Teaching Building".
Guandian Village has become a large market town on the banks of the Huai River, and villagers have begun to open restaurants in the market town to do business.
