On January 13, Zhichepai learned that in 2021, Porsche set a new record for sales of more than 300,000 vehicles, achieving growth in all major regions.

In 2021, Porsche sold 301915 units (up 11% year-over-year), including 84,717 units in the fourth quarter (up 5% year-on-year). Among them, the most noteworthy is the brand's all-electric vehicle, the Porsche Taycan/Taycan Cross Turismo family, which has grown rapidly. In the fourth quarter, the Taycan/Taycan Cross Turismo family set a new quarterly record of 12,656 units (up 40% year-over-year), accounting for 14.9% of total sales in the fourth quarter (a new record).

In 2021, the company's electric vehicle sales more than doubled to 41,296 units (up 106% year-on-year), also accounting for 13.7% of total sales. The Taycan has sold more than 61,000 units worldwide. Sales of Porsche electric cars in 2021 surpassed Porsche's iconic model, the 911, an astonishing achievement, although the 911 achieved a sales record of 38,464 units.

Of all Porsche models, the Taycan was the third most popular: the first was the Macan (88,362 units), the Cayenne was followed by (83,071 units), the Taycan family was third (41,296 units, up 106 percent), the 911 fourth (38,464 units), the Panamera fifth (30,220 units), the 718 Boxster and the 718 Cayman sixth (20,502 units).

Sales of the Porsche Taycan/Taycan Cross Turismo family grew rapidly

While Porsche doesn't report sales of plug-in hybrids, we're guessing they should have a sizable share of total sales. As things stand, Porsche's transition to electric vehicles will be very smooth.

Once the all-electric Macan – based on a new high-end electric platform (PPE) developed by Audi and Porsche – is on the market (and is expected to be in the near future), it could become Porsche's top model. The all-electric Cayenne and Panamera are likely to be the next step, and at some point, maybe we'll also see an all-electric 911.
