In 1976, Yang Yong met his old subordinates: If it weren't for you, it would be really dangerous

During the Spring Festival in 1976, Admiral Yang Yong and Admiral Luo Ruiqing went to Hainan Island together and met Wei Mingsen, deputy commander of the Yulin Base of the Navy. Wei Mingsen was not simple, in 1974, he was the commander-in-chief of the former enemy in the Xisha Naval Battle, and won the victory in the Xisha self-defense counterattack.

Yang Yong said to Wei Mingsen very gratefully, that time in Guizhou is really hanging, if it were not for you, it would be really dangerous, the consequences would be unimaginable, Yang Yong's wife Lin Bin also thanked Wei Mingsen one after another. What's going on here?

Time back to more than 20 years ago. It was early 1950, and Yang Yong, commander of the Fifth Corps, had been appointed commander of the Guizhou Military Region and chairman of the provincial government. Please note that Yang Yong is the first commander of the Guizhou Military Region, which is equivalent to the first governor of Guizhou Province.

Wei Mingsen, a native of Longyao, Hebei Province, was an excellent intelligence agent of our army; he entered the special service regiment of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army as a teenager, engaged in intelligence and surveying and mapping work, and became a famous model cadre. During the Liberation War, Yang Yong served as the commander of the first column of Liu Deng's army, and Wei Mingsen served as the chief of the operations section of the first column with excellent professional qualities.

The Fifth Corps was established, with Yang Yong as commander and Wei Mingsen as the head of the reconnaissance section. To use an image analogy, Wei Mingsen was the eyes and ears of Yang Yong, the commander of the corps. Yang Yong also had great trust in Wei Mingsen. The Second Field Army liberated the great southwest, and Yang Yong fought to Chongqing.

After the liberation of Chongqing, Yang Yong wanted to return to Guizhou to take office, and he was the first parent official of the people of Guizhou Province. As the chief of the reconnaissance section, Wei Mingsen naturally had to follow the Fifth Corps to Guizhou. Guizhou is located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, which is mountainous and has a very complex terrain. The Fifth Corps ran a lot of cars on the mountain road, and there were even several rollover accidents.

Wei Mingsen not only knew how to drive, but also learned to repair cars, and the leader of the corps knew his ability, so he let him be responsible for repairing the car with tools in the back. Entering Guizhou, the first stop is Zunyi, the sacred red hometown, where the Zunyi Conference that determined China's future destiny was held.

By the time Wei Mingsen arrived in Zunyi, it was already night. Wei Mingsen noticed that the streets were plastered with propaganda slogans and welcomed Chairman Yang back to Guizhou to preside over the work. Wei Mingsen felt very strange, he did not know that Yang Yong had been appointed chairman of Guizhou Province.

Years of professionalism aroused Wei Mingsen's vigilance, and he quickly found the comrades of the local Zunyi Military Control Commission, who said that they would welcome Chairman Yang to Guiyang in the middle of the road tomorrow morning, and now that the organization had been made, Guiyang would also welcome him.

Wei Mingsen broke out in a cold sweat when he heard a word.

Historically, there were many bandits in this part of Guizhou. Still during the Red Army's Long March, after the fierce Battle of the Xiangjiang River was fought, Li Tianyou, who was the commander of the Fifth Division of the Red Third Army, started swinging, hot and cold, and had to lie on a stretcher.

At this moment, the enemy suddenly attacked the headquarters of the Red Fifth Division, and Li Tianyou was caught off guard and retreated to the rear mountain. Afterwards, it was found that only a group of bandits attacked the division headquarters, who only wanted to grab money and did not know the details of the Red Army, so they left after grabbing things.

Fortunately, it was only a bandit, and if it were a regular Kuomintang army, Li Tianyou would probably be unable to escape this fate. After Peng Dehuai found out, he reprimanded Li Tianyou fiercely and must learn a lesson. A generation of famous generals Li Tianyou lost his front hoof and was demoted to the regimental headquarters as the chief of the operations section.

(Yang Yong and Li Tianyou)

What does this event illustrate? In the years of war, there were many bandits in Guizhou. Yang Yong was Li Tianyou's comrade-in-arms, and of course he knew about this file, and Wei Mingsen also knew. New China has just been founded, Guizhou has just been liberated, and when entering Guizhou, we must be more careful.

At that time, many parts of Guizhou were still in a vacuum, the Kuomintang troops had just withdrawn, and the People's Liberation Army had not yet come to take over. This vacuum gives the vast number of bandits an opportunity to take advantage of. What is even more frightening is that more than 800 habitual prisoners who have been detained have all been released from prison.

Coupled with the defeated remnants of the Kuomintang soldiers who were ambushed and scattered soldiers, this is a potentially very terrible force. Chiang Kai-shek vainly tried to use this force to fight a guerrilla war with the People's Liberation Army in Guizhou, and some bandits even openly played the banner of "anti-communism to save the country."

At that time, public security in Guizhou was very poor, and sometimes more than 40 cases could occur overnight. In this context, publicizing Yang Yong's arrival in Guizhou with great fanfare is not a blatant attempt to tell the bandits the news and make them ready? This is one.

Second, Yang Yong went to Guizhou to take office, there are more than 20 cars in the party, most of them are cadres and staff, only a company of guard troops, and scattered on various trucks, in case of bandit attack, it can be said that there is no strength, Yang Yong's safety can not be guaranteed at all.

Third, from Zunyi to Guiyang, the terrain along the way is very complicated, especially through Sanhe Town, where there is a section of "three turns", which is the easiest for bandits to fight ambush battles. The more Wei Mingsen thought about it, the more frightened he became.

Some people may have to ask, is it worrying? New China has been established, where are so many bandits? It would be a big mistake to think that way.

Wei Mingsen couldn't sit still any longer, he didn't even eat dinner, and immediately went to look for Commander Yang Yong. As mentioned earlier, Wei Mingsen is Yang Yong's eyes and ears, they are very familiar, Wei Mingsen can see Yang Yong at any time. But it was late at night.

Yang Yong was already asleep. The habit developed during the war years, Yang Yong slept very lightly, as soon as he heard the sound of talking, he woke up, and he heard that it was Wei Mingsen's voice, Yang Yong said, What are you looking for me for? Something to talk about tomorrow.

(Wei Mingsen in his youth)

Wei Mingsen said, 100,000 people were in a hurry, and their eyebrows were burning.

Yang Yong was completely without sleep, and he asked Wei Mingsen to sit down and speak slowly. Wei Mingsen reported what he found and analyzed that there were many bandits along the way. Our machines have fewer guns and fewer guns, and the guards have 180 guns, and the convoy runs on the road, which is easy to disperse, and it is possible to pull away from the front and back for several kilometers or even tens of kilometers, in case there is an unexpected situation, it is impossible to support each other at all. For security reasons, the commander must follow the large troops tomorrow and cannot run to the front alone.

With such a cautious reconnaissance section chief, Yang Yong felt very relieved, and indeed he was careless. He originally did not want to alarm the localities, and wanted to wait until Guiyang to announce the appointment, but he did not expect that the local authorities had already announced in advance, and the momentum had been created, but he seemed passive and could only take office on time.

The order has been given and cannot be changed. Wei Mingsen said that there is no other way now, only to avoid risks in time, and the chief leaves an hour early. Yang Yong agreed.

Early the next morning, Yang Yong got up, some of the local welcome people came, most of them did not come, Yang Yong ordered to leave early. Soon the convoy entered the most dangerous town of Sanhe. The combat aircraft car was broken, and Wei Mingsen had to go down to repair the car.

In this way, Wei Mingsen and Yang Yong's car pulled away. When you go to the "three turns", it is indeed very dangerous, the left is a steep mountain rock, the right is a bottomless deep ditch, a little careless will fall into the abyss, and there will be no recovery. The convoy must slow down.

Suddenly, a burst of gunfire rang out, and the bandits came to attack. Afterwards, it was learned that the leader of the bandits was named Song Ze, a local habitual bandit, who had the title of deputy division commander, and he gathered 25 bandits in Zunyi County to ambush Yang Yong on the way.

Fortunately, Yang Yong's convoy set off an hour earlier, and Song Ze's bandit team had not yet been assembled, and at present it was only a small group of bandits attacking. If you wait until the bandits' large troops are in place, once they set up roadblocks and cut off the road, in such a place, Yang Yong will be difficult to fly even if he inserts his wings.

I'm afraid to think about it. Worried about Yang Yong's safety, Wei Mingsen did not dare to fight, did not dare to stop, and used the big truck as a cover to forcibly pass through the bandit's blockade area. Because of the continuous sharp turn, the left wheel of the car Wei Mingsen was broken, fortunately it was the left wheel, if the right wheel was broken, Wei Mingsen estimated that the car would fall into the abyss.

(General Wei Mingsen)

This section of the road was full of bandits, Wei Mingsen's soldiers had already suffered more than half of the casualties, he was worried about Yang Yong's safety, Yang Yong actually sent the guard troops back to reinforce them. Wei Mingsen asked the commander how he was. He replied that the commander said that this was only a small group of bandits, and that they could not fall in love with war, and that they were afraid of delaying the grand gathering of the soldiers and civilians in Guiyang, and that he would rush back to his post and go forward first.

The commander was all right, Wei Mingsen put his heart in his stomach, and then continued to fight the bandits. Wei Mingsen found that the bandits had ambushed at least six kilometers, and the two sides had fought fiercely for three hours, and they did not retreat, presumably there were many follow-up troops.

At this moment, our reinforcements had arrived, and a mortar and a machine gun had been drawn, and the bandits, seeing the situation, had evacuated. Wei Mingsen cleaned up the battlefield and found that there were more than 20 transport vehicles behind them, and all our soldiers on the cars were killed and the cars were destroyed.

It's dangerous.

Although the bandits did not kill Yang Yong, they also achieved a lot of success, and then the Kuomintang radio triumphantly trumpeted that they had killed Yang Yong, the chairman of Guizhou Province. The central leaders who were far away in Beijing heard the radio and hurriedly called to ask, Is Yang Yong okay?

Yang Yong was fine, but it also made people break out in a cold sweat. If it wasn't for Wei Mingsen's proposal to leave an hour early, Yang Yong estimated that he would have really been killed. After all, the bandits came prepared, and yang Yong's troops were too thin to be the bandits' opponents at all.

In 1976, Yang Yong met his old subordinates: If it weren't for you, it would be really dangerous

According to statistics, by April 1950, there were more than 400 large bandits in Guizhou Province, and there were as many as 130,000 bandits with guns. This was almost equivalent to the total strength of Yang Yong's Fifth Corps. Of the more than 70 counties in the province, more than 30 are in the hands of bandits.

In a word, the bandits in Guizhou are quite serious! This will be the last arduous battle faced by Yang Yong's Fifth Corps, no less than the Battle of Huaihai and the Battle of Crossing the River that year. After all, Yang Yong, as the commander of the corps, almost died at the hands of bandits.

Yang Yong quickly mobilized his troops, personally deployed, took appropriate measures, and successively issued instructions for the suppression of bandits to declare war on the bandits. With the joint efforts of Yang Yong and others, the second campaign to liberate Guizhou, the work of suppressing bandits, was finally victorious.

Yang Yong's tenure in Guizhou was short, and he soon entered the Nanjing Military Academy and then went to North Korea. In 1955, Yang Yong was awarded the rank of founding general. His reconnaissance section chief, Wei Mingsen, also achieved great success later, commanding the Battle of the Paracel Sea, defending the security of the South China Sea frontier, and later serving as the deputy commander of the Navy's South China Sea Fleet Guangzhou Base. It is really a strong general who has no weak soldiers under him.
