However, the two generals I want to introduce today, they are both surnamed Li, and they are also the chief and deputy commanders of the same column, but they have a very different ending, they are Li Tianyou, commander of the first column of the Northeast Field Army, and Li Zuopeng, deputy commander and chief of staff.
When it comes to the first column of the Northeast Field Army, many people know their brilliant achievements, the first column is the famous Tiger Army in Dongye, which made great contributions in the battles of four wars, four peaces and three lower Jiangnan, and its commander Li Tianyou is not to mention a famous general in hundred battles.
General Li Tianyou was a native of Lingui, Guangxi, who joined the Gui Army at the age of 14 from a poor background, and in October 1929, Li Tianyou joined the Red Army, and on December 11 of the same year, the Red 7 Army was established, and Li Tianyou, who was only 15 years old, was appointed deputy company commander of the special service company of the military department.
Soon more than 2,000 bandits pounced on Baise, and in the case of a huge disparity in the strength of the enemy and us, Li Tianyou was not afraid to lead a company of special agents to defend the city, and launched a street battle with the enemy, seizing the high ground outside the city, and crushing the enemy's attack, which showed Li Tianyou's command ability.
Later, Li Tianyou became a famous general of the Red Army, and had outstanding performances in the War of Resistance and the War of Liberation, especially in the War of Resistance, Li Tianyou led the whole regiment to participate in the Battle of Pingxingguan, and Li Tianyou, who had made great achievements in battle, did not take pride in his achievements, and in 1970 Li Tianyou died of illness, and his name has been remembered by posterity.
Although Li Zuopeng joined the Red Army at the age of 16, his military achievements during the Red Army and the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression were inferior to Li Tianyou's, which is the main reason why he was only deputy commander and was awarded lieutenant general.
However, Li Zuopeng had military talent, and after he became the deputy commander and chief of staff of the First Column, he made great contributions when he completely annihilated Liao Yaoxiang in the Liaoshen Campaign, and then he became a general on his own, and in 1949 he became the commander of the 43rd Army and the commander of the 127th Division, and led his troops south.
Li Zuopeng was ordered to prepare for the crossing of the river on the north bank of the Yangtze River, and with a single order, he led the 43rd Army to quickly cross the river and defeated the enemy Bai Chongxi's troops in front of him.
After the liberation of Guangdong, Li Zuopeng continued to lead his troops south to the Leizhou Peninsula, and also participated in the battle to liberate Hainan Island.
In 1955, Li Zuopeng was awarded the rank of lieutenant general, and under the care of Lin Zong, Li Zuopeng's officials became bigger and bigger, serving as the first political commissar of the Navy and deputy chief of general staff of the People's Liberation Army.
In 1981, Li Zuopeng and others were tried, Li Zuopeng was sentenced to 17 years in prison, and then he was released on medical parole, placed in Taiyuan to live, and in his later years he was cared for by the organization, and he died of illness in 2009 at the age of 95.
