Editor's Note:

"Do you know how to make rice out of rice?" "Boil it with water!" On April 23, Pan Yuhua, the representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage representative project, brought a lecture on "Paper Can Sing, Ancient Papermaking". The lecture is one of the "Real Library" series of activities organized by Guizhou Provincial Library in the multi-purpose hall on the first floor of the North Library, which aims to turn the knowledge of books into reality through on-site teaching and hands-on experience of participants.

In this activity, Pan Yuhua took the common things in everyone's life as an example, and used humorous and vivid language to explain the steps of foam, cooking, washing, beating, copying, baking and other steps in the production of leather paper. At the same time, it introduces the classification of Chinese paper and how papermaking has spread to the world.

Papermaking is one of the four great inventions of ancient China, and bamboo paper and bark made from bamboo and bark are two important varieties of traditional handmade paper. Today, many areas of Guizhou still retain the ancient skills of traditional bamboo and leather paper making, especially the production skills of Xiang paper ditch (Buyi ethnic group) in Guiyang City, Xiaotun in Zhenfeng County and Shiqiao (Miao ethnic group) in Danzhai County.
