Centennial Hundred Generals 47: Han Xianchu
In February 1946, it was a critical period to seize the northeast, and the "Old Eighth Road" was urgently needed everywhere.
Lin zong wanted to send Han Xianchu to the 2nd column of the Western Manchuria Military Region. The 2nd Column was the former 3rd Division of the New Fourth Army, formerly known as the 344th Brigade of the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army, which was formed by the 25th Army of the Eyu-Anhui Red Army and the Red Army of Northern Shaanxi from the Long March to northern Shaanxi.
However, the attitude of Huang Kecheng, deputy commander of the Western Manchuria Military Region, made Han Xianchu completely cold: There is no shortage of cadres in the Third Division!

Admiral Han Xianchu
The commander of the West Manchuria Military Region was Lu Zhengcao, who was from the Northeast Army, and out of respect for Huang Kecheng, he several times proposed to his superiors to give way. Cadres are being grabbed everywhere, is there really no shortage of people in the Western Manchuria Military Region, or do Huang Kecheng and Han Xianchu have any beams?
Speaking of the relationship between Huang Kecheng and Han Xianchu, it goes back to the time when the Red Army reorganized the Eighth Route Army.
In August 1937, the Red 15th Army was reorganized into the 344th Brigade of the 115th Division, with the brigade commander Xu Haidong, The old leader of Han Xianchu, and the deputy brigade commander being Huang Kecheng (later political commissar). However, the 3 divisions of the Red 15th Army could only be reorganized into 2 regiments, and the 78th Division had to be split into two other divisions.
The 75th Division was reorganized into the 687th Regiment, with Regiment Commander Zhang Shaodong and Deputy Regiment Commander Han Jizhen; the 81st Division was reorganized into the 688th Regiment, with Regiment Commander Chen Jinxiu, Deputy Regiment Commander Han Xianchu, and Political Department Director Liu Zhen. In this way, Huang Kecheng became the new leader of Han Xianchu and Liu Zhen.
Huang Kecheng, who was parachuted down from the Red Army to the 344th Brigade, was a little unsatisfactory when he first arrived, especially the arrogant general from Dabie Mountain, who had a distinct personality and did not like to listen to people. Huang Kecheng believes that Han Xianchu and Tian Shouyao have "mountaintop doctrine", and has a good feeling for Liu Zhen.

In September 1937, in the Battle of Pingxingguan, as the first battle of the Eighth Route Army's anti-Japanese battlefield, Lin Biao and Nie Rongzhen used all 2 brigades and 4 regiments. Xu Haidong and Huang Kecheng led the 687th Regiment to participate in the battle, but due to heavy rain and flash floods, the reserve 688 Regiment missed the first victory against japan.
In December 1937, Yan'an and Zhu Laozong won a regimental quota for the Eighth Route Army, and Xu Haidong and Huang Kecheng reorganized the 78th Division into the 689th Regiment. Han Xianchu, deputy commander of the 688 Regiment, who had served as the division commander, was appointed as the regimental commander, and Tian Shouyao succeeded him as the deputy commander of the 688 Regiment.
The 344th Brigade became the only brigade of the Eighth Route Army with three main regiments, and its troops were strong and strong.
In January 1938, more than 2,000 Japanese troops swept through the Pingshan Hongzidian of the Fourth District of Jin-Cha-Ji, and the 344th Brigade was ordered to support.
Since the brigade commander Xu Haidong was recuperating from illness, the battle was commanded by political commissar Huang Kecheng, and Chen Jinxiu led the 688th Regiment to set up an ambush at Majiashan in Wentang Town. After the battle began, the Japanese army was overwhelmed and rushed to help. The rescue Japanese came with cannons, found the headquarters of the 688 regiment from the reflection of the telescope, and concentrated on shelling. Chen Jinxiu, the commander of the guard battalion, Wang Guoqing, and 5 other guard soldiers were unfortunately killed.
In the wentang ambush, more than 900 enemy casualties were killed and more than 600 people were killed, and there were also some problems with Huang Kecheng's command.
In February, more than 30,000 Japanese troops besieged the "Ninth Road" in southeastern Jin, and the 344th Brigade was ordered to cooperate with the 129th Division.
On February 25, Zhang Shaodong, commander of the 687th Regiment, and Lan Guoqing, chief of staff, led some people to defect, and the news came that Xu Haidongqi, the commander of the 344th Brigade, who was recuperating, vomited blood on the spot. After the chairman learned of this, he personally arranged for him to return to Yan'an to recuperate, and the sky collapsed.
In March, Yang Dezhi was appointed acting brigade commander of the 344th Brigade, and soon after he and Han Xianchu's 689th Regiment annihilated the puppet army jinlu department in Huaxian County.
Huang Kecheng
In April 1938, Han Xianchu and the 689 regiment ushered in a major examination.
Han Xianchu ordered the 1st Company and the 4th Company to immediately launch a charge, but suffered heavy casualties under the crossfire of the Japanese army. After 2 hours of fierce fighting, 4 company commanders were killed and the attack was blocked. Han Xianchu organized mortar and light and heavy machine gun support, and the two companies met with the Japanese short soldiers for an hour, but the attack was still fruitless. Han Xianchu resolutely ordered the 2nd Battalion to replace the 1st Battalion as the main attacker, and finally recaptured Dai Jia'an after 3 consecutive attacks.
The attack turned to defense, and the 689th Regiment repelled 7 Japanese charges in succession, making it difficult for enemy reinforcements to overcome.
Liu Bocheng saw Dai Jia'an's bloody battle in the telescope and said to Xu Xiangqian: "This unit is excellent! "
The battle annihilated more than 2,200 Japanese troops and the 689th Regiment lost more than 600 men. After the war, Liu, Xu, and Deng Te issued commendation orders, and Mr. Zhu personally came to the 689 Regiment to speak, praising the hard, good, and very effective fighting, and the headquarters added 500 new soldiers to them.
Battle site of Changle Village
In the spring of 1939, Yang Dezhi, commander of the 344th Brigade, led the Jiluyu detachment to southwest Lu.
Regardless of his previous suspicions, Huang Kecheng recommended Tian Shouyao to take over as brigade commander and Han Xianchu as deputy brigade commander. Soon, Tian Shouyao moved south to the Central Soviet base area, and Han Xianchu became the brigade commander of the 344 brigade. In April 1940, Han Xianchu was transferred to the new 3rd Brigade Commander, and Liu Zhen took over as the commander of the 344th Brigade.
In May, Huang Kecheng led the 344th Brigade and the newly organized 2nd Brigade south to the Central China Yuwan Suzhou Border Region, and merged with the 6 detachments of Peng Xuefeng's New Fourth Army to form the 4th Column of the Eighth Route Army. It was later reorganized into the 5th Column, which later became the 3rd Division of the New Fourth Army. After the victory of the War of Resistance, it grew to 35,000 people.
Han Xianchu did not go south and remained in the Jiluyu Military Region. In the autumn of 1940, in the Battle of the Hundred Regiments, Han Xianchu led the new 3rd Brigade to cooperate with the 129th Division to break through the Changzhi Avenue in Handan. In March 1941, Han Xianchu returned to Yan'an to study, and for the next four years he stayed away from the front line and distanced himself from Liu Zhen.
Huang Kecheng (third from right) and some cadres of the Fifth Column
On September 14, 1945, a few days after Japan surrendered, Huang Kecheng proposed to march into the northeast.
Huang Kecheng sent a telegram to Yan'an, proposing to send at least 50,000 people and preferably more than 100,000 people. Yan'an quickly finalized the strategy of "developing to the north and defending to the south", and transferred 20,000 cadres and 110,000 "Old Eighth Road" from Shandong, North China and other base areas.
However, after many confrontations with the enemy, the Northeast Democratic Coalition Army has exposed three major shortcomings: First, it lacks logistical support, second, it lacks cadres who can train troops, and third, it lacks cadres who can fight wars. If this is the case, why did Huang Kecheng politely reject Han Xianchu?
In fact, this is not the first time that Huang Kecheng has declined Lin Zong's appointment. In November 1945, Lin Biao, Peng Zhen, and Luo Ronghuan appointed Li Tianyou as the first deputy commander of the 3rd Division, but considering that Liu Zhen and Hong Xuezhi had been in the 3rd Division for many years, if hong Xuezhi, the second deputy commander of the division, were transferred, it would have a chain reaction and would be detrimental to the stability of the troops. Huang Kecheng pressed down on the appointment, and Li Tianyou rushed to Li Jiatun, 30 miles away, to show Lin Zongli Chen.
Subsequently, to yan'an power generation, such as Li Tianyou to the 3rd Division can be the division commander, himself only as the political commissar, Liu Zhen, Hong Xuezhi position unchanged. In the end, the chairman and Lin Zong forgave Huang Kecheng's good intentions, and Li Tianyou had another appointment.
In February 1946, the 3rd Division of the New Fourth Army had been changed to the 2nd Column of the Western Manchuria Military Region, and Lin Zong wanted to send Han Xianchu to come, and Huang Kecheng considered the outstanding performance of Liu Zhen and others, so he again declined. After all, Lin Zong was Lin Zong, and arranged Han Xianchu to serve as the deputy commander of the 4th Column of Southern Manchuria.
Northeast Lin Biao and Luo Ronghuan
It is gold that will always shine, Liu Zhen 2 is invincible, and Han Xianchu has also played a piece of heaven in Nanman.
In May 1946, shortly after the Democratic Coalition abandoned Siping, Han Xianchu forced the 184th Division's Pan Shuoduan to revolt at the Battles of Anshan and Haicheng. In October, in the battle of Xinkailing, Han Xianchu led the 10th Division to 200 miles to help, concentrating troops and firepower to completely annihilate the 25th Division of the "Qianliju".
In March 1947, Han Xianchu led 4 columns and 1 division and 3 columns to Linjiang. In the direction of attack, Zeng Kelin, commander of the 3rd Column, suggested playing the 20th Division of the Dian Army, and Han Xianchu, deputy commander of the 3rd Column, vigorously advocated the annihilation of the US 89th Division. The dispute could not be resolved, so it had to be reported to the Liaodong Military Region. Xiao Jinguang, commander of the military region, and Chen Yun, political commissar, made a plan: Han Xianchu commanded two columns. In this battle, 8500 enemy casualties were lost and 320 were killed.
In August 1947, in order to solve logistical problems, Lin zong transferred Huang Kecheng as deputy commander, logistics commander and political commissar.
In September, Han Xianchu was already the commander of the 3rd Column, and he vigorously ran 240 miles away from the public opinion, annihilating more than 8,000 people of the enemy's 116th Division at Weiyuan Fort in one fell swoop, and achieving the fame of the "Whirlwind Force". When Du Yuming left the northeast, he felt that Han Xianchu was the most difficult to deal with!
Han Xianchu
Han Xianchu later led the 40th Army south and joined the 43rd Army to liberate Hainan Island. After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, he became the "best commander on the front line" in the eyes of the US military. When the strait was deterred, he sat in the Fuzhou Military Region; when the north was tense, he sat in the Lanzhou Military Region.
Huang Kecheng was a man of integrity and had a superior strategic vision, while Han Xianchu had almost never lost a battle. Our army is fortunate to have Han Xianchu and Huang Kecheng. In his later years, Han Xianchu talked about Huang Kecheng and frankly said: Huang Lao, this person, is upright and principled!
