She was the mother of Yimeng: none of the 86 descendants of the Eighth Route Army died prematurely, and 4 of her own grandchildren starved to death

Du Fu once wrote: There are thousands of buildings in Ande, and the cold people in the world are happy!

War can always bring pain and suffering, and in war many children lose their parents. After many tribulations, justice will eventually triumph over evil, and after the victory of the war, life will gradually stabilize. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, many children were raised in the army. In those days, having a stable home was a luxury, so many children would follow their parents in the army back and forth, but because of the war, these children may not be well taken care of at times. And the person I am talking about today has achieved greatness with his own ordinaryness.

She was the mother of Yimeng: none of the 86 descendants of the Eighth Route Army died prematurely, and 4 of her own grandchildren starved to death

Born in 1888 in Yinan, Shandong Province, Wang Yiyu married dongxinzhuang village in Mamuchi Township at the age of 19. In 1938, after the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, in order to contribute his own strength to the country, Wang Changyu, who was almost 50 years old, joined the organization and served as the president of the village women's rescue committee in the village. In June 1939, an army of the Eighth Route Army was stationed in Dongxinzhuang. As mentioned earlier, many children will follow their parents, so in this unit, there are the children of 27 anti-war soldiers, and some of the orphans of soldiers who have died. Among these children, the age is distributed at various stages, but the oldest is only seven or eight years old, and the youngest is only two or three days. Because they can hardly eat a few full meals or eat anything nutritious, these children look black and thin on the outside, which makes people look very distressed.

These children are so busy and tired because their parents are too busy defending themselves against foreign enemies to take care of them. Looking at these poor children, Wang Changyu was really uncomfortable in his heart, among so many children, some children were too young, and if they couldn't survive such a toss, they would definitely die. So Wang Yiyu took the initiative to ask the commander that she would take the children to Dongxinzhuang for care, and this suggestion was granted as soon as it was proposed. In October 1939, a temporary nursery was set up, and in order to settle the children, she went door to door to send the children to a house where she could raise children.

When she couldn't find anyone to arrange, she took the remaining seven children back to her home. But in Wang's family, there were already four children, and they belonged to his own family. With that seven more, her family has 11 children. Wang Changyu's family originally had no money, and suddenly there were seven more children, which undoubtedly added a lot of pressure to the family. Since Wang Yiyu took down this job, he would certainly not let the children go hungry, and he would certainly not treat the children badly.

Because there are too many people in the family who need to eat, in two months, the family has eaten all the grain, and there is not even any seeds left. When there was really nothing to eat, Wang Yiyu would go out and borrow it from house to house. In fact, not having food to eat is not the most terrible, the most terrible thing is that the Japanese army will carry out a sweep at that time. In order to protect the children, Wang Yiyu could only hide them in a cave. Every time she sent the children to the cave, she would let her eldest daughter-in-law take care of the children inside, while she would observe the situation outside. When hiding in a cave, sometimes the time is long, sometimes the time is short. The longest one actually hid for two months, in the summer of 1942, the weather often rained, two children had fevers because of the cold, Wang Yiyu let his son brave the rain in the middle of the night to go to the doctor, so tossed until midnight to settle down, the two children's fever gradually receded.

Once, Wang Changyu went to see the baby in someone else's home and found that the baby was only left with skin and bones because he did not have enough milk. After Wang Yiyu saw it, he took the baby to his home and raised it, and let the second daughter-in-law, who was still breastfeeding, feed the baby with his own milk, but at that time, the second daughter-in-law's child also needed to be nursed. But in order to feed the baby in his arms, he could only give his own child a coarse grain.

In this way, the whole family devoted all their body and mind to taking care of the children of the Eighth Route Army. And these children were also well taken care of by Wang Changyu, but it is regrettable that Wang Changyu's four grandchildren died of illness or starvation. At that time, the eldest child was eight years old, and his vitality was more tenacious than other children, but he still did not endure the pain and left this life.

From 1939 to 1945, 86 children of the Eighth Route Army survived peacefully under the care of Wang Changyu, and her great deeds touched many people, everyone called her Yimeng Mother, in 1989, after Wang Changyu died, in order to commemorate her, a memorial hall was established for her in 2003.

brief summary

Even if their own children were sacrificed, they could not let the children of the Eighth Route Army die. Who doesn't love their children? This dedication of Wang Changyu is still very touching and shocking to this day. And the children who were raised by Wang Yiyu have never forgotten the mother who took care of them when they lived in Yimeng. Although Wang Yiyu is no longer here, these children who have been raised by her will remember her for the rest of their lives.
