The head of the Ministry of Commerce said that China's import and export of goods is expected to reach $6 trillion in 2021, an increase of more than 20%; at present, the domestic preparations for the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) are ready.
Ren Hongbin, vice minister of the Ministry of Commerce, said that in 2021, China's foreign trade will overcome many difficulties and achieve rapid growth, and the status of the first trading country will be more consolidated.
Ren Hongbin: Compared with last year, the increase in imports and exports is about 1.3 trillion US dollars, which is equivalent to the sum of the increments in the past 10 years. In the first three quarters, the international market share of exports and imports reached 15% and 12.1% respectively, hitting a record high.
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) will enter into force on 1 January 2022. Ren Hongbin revealed that at present, the domestic preparations for the implementation of the agreement are ready, and the 701 binding obligations are ready to be fulfilled. The Taxation Commission of the State Council has completed the conversion of the agreed tariffs to the tariff table for implementation in 2022, the General Administration of Customs has promulgated the Measures for the Administration of Origin, and the relevant legislative amendments have also been completed.
Ren Hongbin: The implementation of the agreement is a new milestone in China's opening up to the outside world, making the two domestic and international markets and two kinds of resources more closely linked, and injecting new impetus into China's economic growth.
