The annual cargo throughput exceeded 1.2 billion tons for the first time, the container throughput exceeded 30 million TEUs for the first time, the sea-rail intermodal transport volume exceeded 1.2 million TEUs for the first time, and the breakthrough of "zero" of the China Quality Award for port enterprises in Zhejiang Province and the whole country was achieved. In 2021, Ningbo Zhoushan Port will actively serve national strategies such as the "Belt and Road" construction, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and fully implement epidemic prevention and control measures, highlighting the strong resilience and vigor of the port.

In the face of the spread of the global COVID-19 epidemic and the transmission effects of international container shipping operation, tight capacity, difficult to find one cabin and one box, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has made every effort to build a domestic large-cycle strategic fulcrum and a domestic and international dual-cycle strategic hub, strengthen cooperation with shipping companies and railway departments, and continue to weave a dense container route network and a sea-rail intermodal transport network. Combined with the "three for" special practice activities of party history study and education, Ningbo Zhoushan Port took the lead in launching the "Five Empty Articles" to implement a series of subsidies and service measures such as the reduction and reduction of empty container ship tugboat pilotage fees, the extension of the empty container free period, and the management of air services, so as to attract overseas empty containers to return and alleviate the shortage of containers for export enterprises. At the end of last year, the number of routes in Ningbo Zhoushan Port was 287, compared with the end of 2020, 27 new routes were added, of which 117 were "Belt and Road" routes; the number of sea-rail intermodal trains increased to 21, and the business radiated to 61 prefecture-level cities in 16 provinces (autonomous regions and cities) across the country. In 2021, Ningbo Zhoushan Port supplied more than 7.548 million TEUs of empty containers in the whole year, an increase of 23.1% year-on-year.

At the same time, Ningbo Zhoushan Port relies on the advantages of centralized scheduling and management of ships in the port, and controls the waiting time of container trunk ship to berth at about 20 hours, and the operation efficiency ranks in the forefront of major international and domestic ports. Actively cooperating with local port management departments, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has tried to operate modes such as "direct loading on the port" and "direct pick-up on the side of the ship" of containers, eliminating the need for storage and multiple loading and unloading links in the port area, which has greatly improved the speed and efficiency of the flow of import and export goods. The Yiwu "Sixth Port Area" sea-rail intermodal special train, which has been successfully opened, has achieved a declaration, an inspection and a release, further smoothing the channel for Zhejiang's export-oriented economic development.

Affected by the fluctuations in bulk commodity prices such as iron ore, crude oil, coal and the de-capacity factors of domestic steel and other industries, China's bulk bulk imports faced huge downward pressure last year. Ningbo Zhoushan Port gives full play to its location advantages, relying on the iron ore transportation system formed by the wharves along the Yangtze River, coordinating operations to ensure the supply of iron ore, and receiving and unloading 58 mining ships of 400,000 tons last year. In view of the transportation of goods related to people's livelihood such as thermal coal, oil and grain, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has strengthened the organization of cargo sources, flexibly arranged berthing and evacuation plans, and taken multiple measures to improve the working time of the terminal. Last year, Ningbo Zhoushan Port completed grain handling and unloading volume increased by 48% year-on-year.
