On November 16, 2016, I attended the "Chen Bochui and Chinese Children's Literature - Commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of Mr. Chen Bochui's Birth Forum" at Baoshan Library. This forum made me deeper understand Grandpa's love for children's literature, and more fully understand Grandpa's contribution to children's literature not only in terms of works, but also his contribution to children's literature theory, and his efforts to cultivate new people to encourage new works. Naturally, some doubts about Grandpa's 55,000 yuan (then huge sum of money) to create the "Children's Literature Award" in 1981 were resolved.
I remember that in the forum, Gao Hongbo, Zhang Lulu, Liu Xuyuan, etc. spoke successively, recalling his grandfather's voice, smile, words and deeds, admiring his approachable and selfless and noble character, and at the same time thanking the "Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award" for leading them into a new garden of children's literature, thanking Mr. Chen Bochui and this important influence in their creative process. At that time, I said at the meeting: "As a grandson of My Grandfather, I have the responsibility and obligation to continue the ideals that My Grandfather pursued throughout his life. ”

Since then, I have focused on the Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award and Grandpa's research achievements in children's literature theory and children's education. Working together with many parties, on the basis of the "Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award" founded by the original grandfather, the International Award was introduced into the Picture Book Award, and the "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Original Illustration Exhibition" was authorized to be set up in Baoshan District. In order to better continue the Chen Prize and expand its influence in the field of children's literature at home and abroad, I am doing my best to move forward. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the "Chen Bochui Children's Literature Award" donated by Grandpa this year, it is gratifying to see that the number of people and works participating in the award have made great progress in quantity and quality. And the award-winning authors have also achieved impressive new results. The Chen Award not only has its professionalism, but also actively invites the majority of children's literature lovers to participate in it, and there are many very professional works in the original illustration public group. Not only did he pay attention to works and writers, but he also began to pay attention to the study of children's literature theoretical reviews.
As a representative of my grandchildren, I have taken over the "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award" from my father, and I feel a great responsibility. I have been thinking about the development and future of this award, and I have discussed it with my father many times, and I have also read a lot of inkblots left by my grandfather to understand my grandfather's original intention for setting up the Chen Award. Every speech of the Chen Awards before grandpa's death truly reflected his joy and concern. In his speech to the 7th Chen Award, he wrote: "Why do you feel that these works that have already won the award should be repeated again and again, and not rated as new excellent creations? ...... Is there no better 'flower' in the national children's literature garden, and these writers must win awards? "What Grandpa wants to see is that more new works, new themes, and new authors have emerged through the Chen Award. That's exactly what I'm trying to do now.
When grandpa was 84 years old, he wrote a paragraph about the Chen Award: "In the future, we should try our best to do this work well, so that the selection of works that can compete with the international awards, and even surpass them in the competition and establish authority." At that time, my writers and I will be cheering and applauding, longing for this day to come soon! ”
As a grandson of my grandfather, I have always taken my grandfather's ideal as the goal of my efforts, in order to make the "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award" more authoritative and internationally influential, let us work together.
