Tram sales are weak, electrification is hampered, and the Biden administration is slowing down vehicle waste standards

The Biden administration previously announced new exhaust standards for gasoline vehicles, setting the strictest standards to date for vehicle emissions, but also slowed down the implementation of the proposed standards by three years, in recognition of the slowdown in electric vehicle sales, and the auto industry has asked the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to suspend the implementation of the new standards, citing weak electric vehicle sales, and the new standards will apply to cars, SUVs and most small trucks that leave the factory from 2027 to 2032.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Biden administration's decision gives car companies more time to warm up for electric vehicles, set up more charging stations for electric vehicles, and allow automakers to work to develop supply chains and more affordable vehicles.

The EPA's weakened push to introduce new standards is a victory for traditional automakers, and automakers have warned Biden that consumers are caught off guard by the EPA's proposed target of about 60 percent of new car sales by 2030 for all-electric models.

To meet the EPA's target, it is estimated that 31 to 44 percent of new vehicles sold by 2030 will be fully electric, and the total percentage will depend on the level of exhaust emissions from other combustion engine vehicles, which can be a combination of gasoline and diesel vehicles.

The EPD received feedback from car manufacturers, parts suppliers, sellers and unions, urging them to wait until the EV market matures before implementing the strictest exhaust regulations.
