"And the Hall of Joy must be written." Zheng Xuan, a famous scholar of the Eastern Han Dynasty, said in the Book of Jiezi Yi'en: "Those who are indignant at the end have not succeeded in the graves of their deceased relatives, and all the good books are corrupt, and they must not be written in the auditorium and passed on to others." Yuan Shi's sentence, contrary to Zheng Xuan's intention and using his words, is to say: I think Liu Xing'en must have written his representative works into a final version, and I am happy for him.
"Flawed Qiu waiting to be stone canal Lang". "Flawed Qiu", the name of the ancient county, is the present-day Yanzhou District of Jining City, Shandong Province. The Chronicle of History, vol. 121, "The Biography of Ru Lin Lie", reads: "Flawed Qiu Jiangsheng is the "Guliang Chunqiu". The Book of Han, vol. 88, "The Biography of Ru Lin", reads: "The Duke of Jiangqiu, influenced by the Guliang Chunqiu and the Poems of the Duke of Lushen, passed on his son to his grandson as a doctor. Since Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty caused the Defective Qiu people Jiang Gongzhi to "Spring and Autumn Valley Liang Biography", yuan shi this sentence refers to "Jiang Gong" with "Flawed Qiu" and refers to Liu Xingen, who ruled this sutra with the same rule.
The "Secretary Province" was abolished at the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, and the Qing Dynasty was never restored. The official position of "Secretary Lang" was not available in the Ming Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty was only set up in the thirty-third year of Guangxu (1907). The Draft History of the Qing Dynasty, vol. 115, "Records of Officials", 2nd: "(Guangxu) Thirty-three years, add secretary Lang, from Liupin." In the first year of Xuantong, he was promoted to five products. Man and Han each two. At this time, Yuan Chang, Liu Xing'en, and others were no longer alive. Moreover, when Yuan Chang wrote this poem, Liu Xing'en was nearly eighty years old, and he was only born as a person, and it was impossible for him to have the opportunity to hold other official positions with duties, powers, and status similar to that of "Secretary Lang". Therefore, Yuan Shi's so-called "Waiting for the Stone Canal Lang" is just a high evaluation of Liu Xing'en's learning and academic achievements.
Of course, we can have another interpretation of this tail link. Considering that the previous sentence reverses the words of Zheng Xuan of the Eastern Han Dynasty admonishing his son Zheng Yien, and the flawed Qiu Jiang Gongzhi in the next sentence, "Passing on the son to the grandson as a doctor", then the last two sentences of Yuan Shi may also wish That Liu Xingen has a son who can read the father's book and can pass on the family. In this way, "Waiting for the Stone Canal Lang" does not refer to Liu Xing'en himself, but to his son. Unfortunately, the literature is not clear, I don't know if he has such a philosopher.
Although Liu Xing'en had no hope of winning official positions in central government institutions such as "ShiQu Lang" due to his non-scholarly background and old age, the Qing Dynasty attached great importance to scholarship, official, semi-official or even unofficial, and there were many opportunities to compile books. Three years before Yuan Chang gave the poem, that is, in the seventh year of Tongzhi (1868), when Liu Xing'en was seventy-four years old, Dai Wang, a well-known scholar and editor of the Jinling Bookstore opened by Zeng Guofan, tried his best to recommend Liu Xingen to Zeng Guofan, who had been promoted to the rank of wuyingdian university scholar (the status equivalent to that of the prime minister). Dai Wang's "Who Lu Tang Testament And Literature" Volume I "Discussion with Zeng Xiangguo on the Recommendation of Liu Xingzong": "Fushimi Dantu County Xiaolian (i.e., juren) Liu Xingzong, Zi Binshu, nature Du xue, Qi (contrary to) in the customs, good for the "Guliang Spring and Autumn", so Xiangguo Ruan Gong (Ruan Yuan) saw his writings, tasted the words of pushing (pushing) (pushing) and extended his family to teach the Sun Jing (hiring Liu Xing'en as the tutor of the grandchildren) for more than ten years... Gai Yi Hai Nei Jing Zhi Wang ye (liu Xing'en has the reputation of a famous teacher of hai nei jing). Liu Jun was raised in the township in the twelfth year of Daoguang (Kao Zhongju), and now in the seventy years of the year, there are four, and after the chaos (referring to the suppression of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom by the Qing Dynasty), the gods did not fade. Only the book (the book written) was killed by soldiers, and Fang Chun libu took the examination (to participate in the examination for the jinshi examination presided over by the ministry of ceremonies), and selected Jurong (now Jurong County-level City, Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province) to teach (the instructor of the county school), thinking that he was an old man and an unwilling official, while his hometown used to walk alone, and he was not happy to take his wife and children with his servants, afraid or fall (there was a mistake), nor did he send (nor let him go). However, he was poor and hungry. Wang (Dai Wang) and others ask for it, and they can't bear to listen to him from the son of the lone bamboo (can't bear to let him starve to death). Insulting the Duke of Ming (known as Zeng Guofan) to help him, and not sparing the reward, it is not a sense of special hope (not only I am grateful), but also makes Wen Da (Liu Xing'en's teacher Nguyen Yuan's nickname) have knowledge (underground knowledge), and praise Yi De yu Jiuyuan (underground) also. Counting the Tao (guiding) his way of entering and leaving, and suffering from his excessive mud (too rigid), it is said that he is afraid of wade into the Dry Ze (there is a suspicion of bending his knees to turn to the dignitaries and nobles), and the non-scholar so he treats himself (referring to the loss of intellectual identity). Hope and other Dao (detailed description) Ming Gong ai shi sincerity, although extremely honorable, no arrogance (although the merit of the world, but very humble to treat people), began to cheerfully agree (Liu Xing'en this is happy to agree to come to see Zeng Guofan). When it is supposed that the Ming Gong is on his knees (to the front), he looks like the chen of the ancient bell; the percussion (question) of his learning, which is as inexhaustible as the beginning of the spring, or the non-fallacy of the credible words (humble words, my words). Hope on. ”
According to the "Pinzao" in the scroll of Zeng Guofan's "Qiu Que Zhai Diary", it is said: "Uncle Liu Bin, ming Xing'en, Dan Tu Renchen (Daoguang Twelfth Year, 1832) was seventy-six (as 'seventy-four') years old. Proficient in the study of "Gu Liang". He has studied in Nguyen Van Tat's home class for more than ten years, and his academics are quite family law. Peng Chen (Tongzhi 7th year, 1868) October. It can be seen that after Receiving Dai Wang's letter recommending Liu Xing'en, Zeng Guofan deliberately made an excerpt in his diary, taking this matter to heart. Perhaps because of the busy government affairs, or perhaps because there was no suitable position for a while, it was not until yuan Chang gave liu Xingen a poem three years later that Liu's poverty situation was not alleviated. Reading Yuan Chang's poem, we can't help but give a long sigh.
