However, the collation and compilation of important ancient books such as the Yongle Classic, the Five Classics, the Four Books, and the Sexual Theory, if placed in the Tang and Song Dynasties, should be undertaken by officials such as "Secretary Lang". Therefore, Wang Ying praised Zhao Youtong with "Shi Qulang", which is not unreasonable. According to reason, Zhao Youtong did the actual work of "secretary Lang" in the position of "imperial doctor", and should be retrospectively recognized and paid accordingly afterwards. Yang Shiqi's "Epitaph" says that everyone is happy for Zhao Youtong, expecting that he "will have the word Lin Hanyuan to move", and Zhao Youtong "also hopes to get a post here"; Wang Jun's "Gu Suzhi" says that "when the book is completed, when the Hanlin is moved", this is the meaning. Unfortunately, before he could get promoted, Zhao Youtong returned to his hometown to keep filial piety due to the death of his mother, and soon he could not afford to be ill.
It should be noted that at the beginning of the founding of the Ming Dynasty, the establishment of the former "secretary province" was abolished. Zhao Youtong tried to travel from Song Lian when he was young, so it is normal for Song Lian to mention Zhao Youtong in his collection of essays. But calling it "editing" is not possible. Because Song Lian died in the fourteenth year of Hongwu (1381), and according to the records in Yang Shiqi's "Epitaph", Zhao Youtong was only eighteen years old that year! The word "editing" was added by later generations and had nothing to do with Song Lian. Nevertheless, the title of "editing Zhao Youtong" does not seem to be an empty wind. According to common sense, the official position of "Editor of the Hanlin Academy" may have been a posthumous gift from the imperial court after Zhao Youtong's death.
