Compared with most students, special children have weak learning, interpersonal communication, emotional management and other aspects due to physical and psychological reasons, and need the help of teachers and classmates in campus life. In the face of special children, many adults are helpless, how we should guide children to care for and help special children, is a problem worth thinking about.

At the beginning, we wanted to let children understand autism through popular science activities, and then discuss how to help them, but the definition of autism and related knowledge involve many professional languages, which is a very difficult topic for primary school students to understand. So we switched our thinking, starting with experiences and stories, and let students see that there are all kinds of people in the world who are different from us. The feelings of autistic children are too difficult for children to understand. We use the form of mental activity to let children experience the feeling of being blind, which is very intuitive. In the activity, students will experience that such special groups will encounter many difficulties that we cannot imagine, and then extend through the stories of autistic children to understand autism and other groups in need.

When we let children see this difference, we also help them discover the similarities between ordinary classmates and special children through cartoons and self-analysis. Let students feel the difference between people, precisely from those differences, special children are just a little more different than us, a little more special. Avoid over-labeling of special children.

We hope to plant a seed of love in the young hearts of students, and guide students to learn to understand, accept and respect these special children around them. On this basis, think about how you can help these small partners. We found that through the methods they shared, we can feel the simplicity and kindness of children, but in fact, most of them can not give substantial help to special children, so we consulted professional special education teachers to help students sort out the operable ways to help special children, so that their help is more meaningful, but also to promote their learning and growth.

Although there are many ways to learn with special children is still a difficult thing, I believe that if children can continue to experience learning in this process: understanding and acceptance, learning even when our ideas, habits, etc. are different, they can still respect each other, then it will create an environment suitable for the healthy growth of all kinds of children, which is also our purpose.

Always look at it with the "same eye"

First, look at him with "the same eyes." The reason why he will have some "different" performances will not be for no reason, there must be reasons behind us that we do not know, and these reasons he cannot tell us, and sometimes even he himself does not know why he is doing that. Just like we cry when we are burned by boiling water, or we are afraid of injections and refuse to go to the hospital, it is just a reason that can make him lose his temper, which may be different from ours. In this way, the one who talks loudly and loses his temper in class, what is different, there is no need to look at it in particular, he is no different from other students around you, don't treat him with a different eye from others.

Second, treat him with a "heart of fraternity and tolerance." At the same time, we must receive our tolerance, understanding or help when he has problems of one kind or another. In order to let more people understand the characteristics of children with autism and pay attention to their growth, the Pinggu District Special Education Center actively carries out public welfare activities.
