According to 36Kr quoting a number of people familiar with the matter, BYD's power battery business, Fordy Battery, is actively exploring the market in the new car camp, including Weilai and Xiaomi Automobile.

According to reports, the first model of Xiaomi Automobile has planned two configurations, high and low, of which the low-end model uses a 400V voltage platform and plans to use BYD blade batteries; while the high-end model uses an 800V voltage platform, but "there is a high probability of using products from the Ningde era, but the details of cooperation have not yet been finalized."

Sources on the Weilai side said: "The fixed-point cooperation between Weilai and Fordy Battery has been finalized before the Spring Festival, using BYD's lithium iron phosphate battery." As for when the cooperation between the two sides will be announced, some industry insiders close to the top level of Weilai said that the form of cooperation is relatively new, and it can wait and see.

In response to the above news, Weilai replied to 36Kr: There is no information to disclose. BYD and Xiaomi are similar: there is no official information to provide yet.

It is understood that Weilai's power battery was previously exclusively supplied by the Ningde era, but Li Bin, the helmsman of Weilai, has publicly stated that the battery has become a factor limiting production capacity. Seeking more suppliers and increasing production capacity guarantees have become a common practice in the industry.

In addition, BYD and Shell recently signed a global strategic cooperation agreement to jointly promote energy transformation and work together to improve the charging experience of BYD pure electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) users.

BYD said it will start the partnership in China and Europe first, and plans to expand the partnership globally.

BYD and Shell will collaborate in the following areas:

1. BYD and Shell will establish a partnership between mobility service providers (MSPs) in Europe. In the future, Shell will provide membership services to BYD's personal and business customers, covering more than 275,000 charging terminals on its charging roaming network, and BYD and Shell will jointly develop fleet solutions and exclusive charging services for BYD customers in Europe.

2. The two sides will seek opportunities to provide customers around the world with integrated home energy solutions, such as dynamic electricity price dispatching, photovoltaic integration, household energy storage equipment and vehicle network interaction (V2G) charging solutions.

3. The two sides intend to jointly build a BYD-Shell Electric Vehicle Service Center in major European markets to provide customers with more opportunities to experience BYD's high-end design, advanced new energy vehicle technology, and smooth charging and digital services jointly developed by the two parties to enhance user experience.

3. BYD and Shell will recommend customers to participate in the "Accelerating To a Net Zero Future (A2Z)" decarbonisation program to help corporate fleets in various European markets achieve zero emissions and net zero emissions targets.

4. BYD and Shell intend to carry out global R&D cooperation in the field of battery performance and industry-leading charging.

5. Globally, Shell will study how to apply technologies and products such as Shell E-Fluids and coolants to help BYD further save costs and improve hardware performance.
