The transformation of the charging station industry is happening, from a single energy supplement to a three-dimensional dimension

For the electric vehicle industry, in addition to the endless models, the charging stations around the electric vehicle charging service have also opened a new road of change. Now, some new design visions for future charging stations have emerged to meet the expectations of existing automotive customers in transitioning to electric vehicles. Among them, a variety of charging station models break the conventional format, and even traditional fuel service providers have joined in, let's take a look at some classic cases at home and abroad.

BYD and shell of traditional fuel ecology cooperate with charging stations

According to our consistent understanding, Shell seems to be a traditional fuel ecosystem company, and has not been related to electricity. But now that situation has been broken, they signed a global strategic cooperation agreement with BYD to jointly promote the energy transition and work together to improve the charging experience of BYD pure electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) users. Shell and BYD also plan to jointly form a joint venture to develop an electric vehicle charging network in China.

Shell and BYD will establish a partnership of Mobility Service Providers (MSPs) in Europe, and Shell will provide membership services to BYD's individual and business customers in the future, covering more than 275,000 charging terminals on its charging roaming network. Shell and BYD will also work together to develop fleet solutions and exclusive charging services for BYD customers in Europe. The two companies will seek opportunities to provide integrated home energy solutions to customers around the world, such as dynamic electricity price dispatch, photovoltaic integration, home energy storage devices and vehicle-to-grid interaction (V2G) charging. The two sides intend to jointly establish a Shell-BYD Electric Vehicle Service Center in major European markets to provide customers with more smooth charging and digital services that have been jointly developed to enhance the user experience.

While drinking coffee and charging, Volvo and Starbucks partnered

Volvo and Starbucks are collaborating to create the first electric vehicle charging network at coffee stores in the United States. The fast charging network, powered by ChargePoint, will include up to 60 Volvo-branded chargers spread across up to 15 Starbucks stores. In the first phase of the project, scheduled to begin this summer, the charger will be installed along a 1,350-mile route from Denver to Starbucks headquarters in Seattle.

The idea is simple but clever. If you travel with an electric car, you can complete 20% to 80% of the charge in about 40 minutes at the fast charging station. In the case of the new DC station at a Starbucks store, you can relax and enjoy your favorite Starbucks drink while the car is charging. Volvo plans to have a charging station about every 100 miles, which is within the charging range of most modern electric cars.

If you're driving an all-electric Volvo, you'll be able to use the ChargePoint app integrated into the vehicle's infotainment system to find the next available charging station at participating Starbucks locations. This will open the new charging station casual mode.

Audi's modular charging stations include lounges and solar roofs

Audi has begun planning innovative measures to keep their vehicles on charge no matter where they live. Part of this new strategy includes modular container cubes that can be combined to form hubs that can be easily assembled and disassembled into any desired footprint. To showcase the technology, Audi is opening a pilot project for charging centers that includes a funky lounge and room service. There are also multi-dimensional projects that incorporate vending machines and mobile car care.

According to Audi, during the trial run, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., there will be an employee "meeting the needs of the user." Charging stations and lounges are available 24/7. In addition, Audi offers an electric bike battery exchange station, an electric scooter rental service, Audi product information, and Q4 e-tron and RS e-tron GT test drives. Audi uses it to test flexible and high-end fast charging infrastructure in urban spaces. Because Audi's charging cubes have a temporary storage capacity of 2.45 MWh, they only need a 200 kW power supply connected to a ready-to-use low-voltage network to charge. There's also a 30 kW solar assist from the roof, which is enough to keep the hub's energy storage full for a sustained period of time.

Audi believes that this mode of charging station can charge about 80 electric vehicles per day without meeting the capacity limit of the charging center energy storage system.

Electrify America brings a full range of future charging station concepts

Electrify America has stepped up the focus on customer needs and reimagined the EV charging experience by introducing the "charging station of the future," which can add design and comfort elements such as solar canopy and awning, customer waiting areas, and other customer-centric services, all of which can be done at selected locations.

Equipped with up to 20 ultra-fast DC chargers, this type of station is looking to add a number of service options, including: a customer lounge, an eviction area, a dedicated event space, a solar canopy at the top of the station that protects customers from sunlight and bad weather, and security cameras and additional lighting on site. Charging stations located at specific shopping locations may offer valet charging and curbside delivery options.

Electrify America is currently adding solar awnings to 400-500 individual chargers at 100 charging stations in the United States. In addition to providing shade sunlight and weather factors, the energy captured by solar awnings will be used to help power the site's own operations. The company has installed solar canopy at its flagship charging stations in Baker and Santa Clara, California. Solar energy from these solar canopies is also delivered to battery energy storage systems on site, where the captured energy can help recharge electric vehicles.
