However, the actual situation is that after the launch of the car, sales have been tepid. In 2021, Volkswagen Weiran sold only 10,945 units in the whole year, only half of GL's sales in August.
In 2022, Volkswagen Weiran's monthly sales are still hovering around 1400 units, and it seems to be marginalized by the market. There may be several reasons for this.
First of all, SAIC-GM GL8 is too popular, occupying the absolute boss position of China's MPV market, mainly promoting the business field. Saic Motor Chase eats the industrial chain in the middle and lower reaches of GL8, mainly promoting commercial use. Finally, SAIC-GM-Wuling dominates the entry-level MPV market and mainly promotes families.
From this point of view, it is really difficult for Volkswagen to find its own unique position.
Secondly, volkswagen Weiran's styling deviates from the traditional MPV modeling cognition, streamlined design, more like a chassis lowered SUV, many users are not yet adapted.
Third, Volkswagen Tuon's large three-row space has robbed this medium-sized SUV of a lot of the MPV market, and Volkswagen Weiran is the biggest victim, especially the interior of the two cars looks the same. I believe that many people are likely to switch from Weiran to Tuang when they need a 7-seater car.
The first two reasons are objective facts, Volkswagen Weiran can not change, especially the appearance of the shape, I still think that weiran's shape can usher in the favor of young users, but it takes time to accumulate.
The third reason is that Weiran and Tuang need to make a clear cut, which is why the mid-term reform will be carried out in less than two years.
From the interior point of view, the 2022 model of Volkswagen Weiran abandoned the Volkswagen family interior style, but adopted the interior design of the floating screen, and the central control platform and gear shift mechanism belong to the same model as the new golf platform series, which is also an important symbol of the development of youth.
In terms of hardware strength, the length of 5.3 meters, the height of nearly 1.8 meters, the body width of nearly 2 meters and the wheelbase of more than 3.1 meters make this car have enough space advantages in the front, middle and rear rows.
In terms of configuration, the original configuration of the car is not low, especially in the same price range, Volkswagen Weiran is "more generous" than the GL8. After this upgrade, the whole series is equipped with a 12-inch central control screen as standard, and the active safety facilities of the low- and medium-sized models are also upgraded, so in terms of configuration, Volkswagen Weiran is also higher than the GL8 at the same price.
All in all, from the hardware to the software of the product, Volkswagen Weiran has a natural strength, and this upgrade has also increased this advantage. Another advantage of the early arrival of the mid-term reform is to let the market once again bring Volkswagen Weiran into the mainstream vision, and it will be wait and see if Volkswagen Weiran can bottom out in 2022.
